Harvey's is the oldest independent Brewery in Sussex. Founded by John Harvey in 1790 it still remains a privately owned family business, with the eighth generation currently working there. We pride ourselves on the craft of our brewing, environmental credentials, local distribution, local charitable activities and loyal staff. Widely known for our Best Bitter, our beers and pubs can be found in and around the South East. As a Regional Brewer we tend not distribute further than 60 miles from the brewery premises, however our beers can be purchased via our online shop shop.harveys.org.uk and at our Brewery Shop in Lewes. 2010-01-11, cask at Charlie’s Pub, Copenhagen, 6-4-6-3-12=31
Dark mahogany color. The aroma is a bit breadish, and with some apple. The usual rather sour flavor of low gravity ales, with average body, sweetish caramel flavor, low bitterness. Not impressive.

2005-03-12, Cask Conditioned, 6-3-7-3-14=33
Brown color with red/amber hue. Light malty aroma. Quite good malty ale, not enough aromatic, but enjoyable.

[Cask at Royal Oak, London] A deep red beer with a fine small light brown head. The aroma is slightly sweet malty. The flavor is malty with notes of caramel and roasted bread, but the body is thin.

[Cask at Royal Oak, London] A hazy orange beer with a small beige disappearing head. The aroma is lightly hoppy, while the flavor is very fresh hoppy, oily, and grassy. Nice one.

Bottle. Dark reddish-amber color with a thin off-white head. Aroma of vanilla, dark fruit, and sweet malt. Sweet malt flavor with a fruitcake/candied fruit finish. Sherry like tones - rich and complex. I’d think that if you’d like barrel aged beers, you’ll like this. Very good.

Pours is a very dark brown with no head. Aroma is very musty and winey. Flavor is killer! I get lots of rasions, plums, carmel and black licorice. Very nice to sip on a cold and snowy night. Bottled 1998.

Ruby red ale with an onctuous white head. Vanilla fudge aroma, with butterscotch, lightly maderised. Floral sugars with earthy notes, some black pepper and porto qualities. Lightly astringent but enjoyable. Very organic mouthfeel. Un gros merci a Dumdum!

I have really liked everything I’ve had from this brewery, and this beer is no exception, though I must say it seems like this beer and their Elizabethan ale may well be the same thing - deep garnet in color, with minimal carbonation and just a hint of lace - mildly alcoholic aroma, with vinous qualities, brown sugar and a hint of rum - oily mouthfeel with a medium body - light brandy flavors at first, then plum and dates, christmas cookies (rum balls to be exact), bready qualities and a touch of rolled oats - finish has a bit of hop bitterness, which doesn’t quite compliment the other flavors of the beer, but doesn’t really ruin the enjoyment either - good, but there are far better Christmas ales out there.

Mine had no year or bottle # A.C.D. on the cap. 9.7 oz bottle. A straight into the glass pour produced a small diminishing head on this deep brown, ruby highlighted beer. Strong sweet aroma that carries some notes of chocolate covered cherries, caramel and a hint of smoke. The flavor picks right up with the chocolate covered cherries and has a lemony finish to it. Some licorice in there too. Very thick and syrupy body make this a definite sipper.

Bottle. Very black colour, NO head. Aroma totally like sherry. Sweet... liquorice... bitter... salty... Very good effort. I thought I’d never say this, but there may be too much flavour in this beer.

An amber beer with no head. The aroma is sweet caramelic and quite hoppy. The flavor is slightly sour (probably because of the low ABV) with notes of caramel leading up to a dry end.
