Description
The Bullfinch Brewery was first set up in the kitchen of former travelling sound engineer, beer enthusiast and home brewer Ryan Mclean.
Ryan's travels have ignited a passion and love for great beer. His continuing commitment to the quality of beer and his enthusiasm have created Bullfinch Brewery and its contemporary take on craft beer here in the UK.
Ryan has been brewing professionally since 2014 and is making progressive beers that blend experimental ideas with traditional brewing methods and techniques.
Hidden away under a railway arch in South East London Ryan can be found brewing his modern ideas on a much loved and used, historic 5 Barrel kit originally built by Charles Wells.

Keg at the Brewery. Opaque black - brown beer, small cream colour head. Palate is light and a little soft. Thin dark malts, light roast and coffee. Hops are a nice pine. Little citrus underneath and a whisper of ripe fruits. Mild hop spice. Comes together well.

Bottle from the brewery and drunk at home. Black beer with a lasting thick tan head. Roasted malt and lime aroma hops typical of a black ipa. Some chocolate. Not keen in the mouth, too hoppy and it’s a sour grapefruit flavour. Not pleasant, too aggressive, too many hops and I’m not a fan of this style anyway. Too roasty, too hoppy, lacks balance and drinkability. Too harsh on the finish.

Draft at the brewery taproom. Pours deep brown with a creamy tan head. The nose has charred malts, minerals, dry chocolate. Light-medium sweet flavor with oily, burnt hops, baking cocoa, charred malts, earth. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Moderately resinous to finish, with further minerals, bitter dark cocoa, scorched earth. Not bad.

Keg at the taproom, 01/11/14. Murky deep amber with reddish hues and a decent light beige covering. Nose is cranberry, rye bread, red berry, spice, nutty bird table tunes. Taste carries a light tartness to the red berry element, straw, rye bread, more cranberry. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a bitter berry linger. Decent enough offering.
