Description
The Bullfinch Brewery was first set up in the kitchen of former travelling sound engineer, beer enthusiast and home brewer Ryan Mclean.

Ryan's travels have ignited a passion and love for great beer. His continuing commitment to the quality of beer and his enthusiasm have created Bullfinch Brewery and its contemporary take on craft beer here in the UK.

Ryan has been brewing professionally since 2014 and is making progressive beers that blend experimental ideas with traditional brewing methods and techniques.

Hidden away under a railway arch in South East London Ryan can be found brewing his modern ideas on a much loved and used, historic 5 Barrel kit originally built by Charles Wells.

Bottle (from Ales by Mail). Murky ambery brown colour with a big foamy off-white head, which leaves some lace. Aroma is grains, some bread, mild toffee and some nutty tones. Flavour is floral, some nutty, mild bready, toffeeish and some mild wooden tones. Not very IPAish (even for a British style IPA it's very malty). Still enjoyable as a beer though.

Keg draught at the brewery tap, Herne Hill. Light gold and clear with an uneven white head and lots of lacing. Candy sugar prominent in the scent, with notes of sweetened citrus peel. No surprise that this is a sweet beer, with enough hoppy kickback to give it character. Apricot, melon and even some banana in the aftertaste. Light and slightly watery body, soft carbonation. A lovely pale, if that little bit derivative.

Cask at Pigs Ear 2017 - Hackney. Pours clear brown with a small, foamy tan head. OK stuff, some dirty-earthy bitterness, light chocolate, toast. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Earthy finish, more mild roasted malts. Fair.
