Description
The Bullfinch Brewery was first set up in the kitchen of former travelling sound engineer, beer enthusiast and home brewer Ryan Mclean.
Ryan's travels have ignited a passion and love for great beer. His continuing commitment to the quality of beer and his enthusiasm have created Bullfinch Brewery and its contemporary take on craft beer here in the UK.
Ryan has been brewing professionally since 2014 and is making progressive beers that blend experimental ideas with traditional brewing methods and techniques.
Hidden away under a railway arch in South East London Ryan can be found brewing his modern ideas on a much loved and used, historic 5 Barrel kit originally built by Charles Wells.

Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry, modest fine carbonation. Semi dry dark malts, little chocolate. Dry cherry wood underneath, bitterish. Light roast. Airy finish. Unusual Impy, the cherrywood makes it.

Bottle at L42 - thanks to Ken. It pours black with a medium tan head. The aroma is soft, sweet, oily, sticky, booze soaked fruits, tangy, juicy, oily, dried fruits, oak and a touch of spice. The taste is slick, oily, chewy, sticky, charred wood, roasted malt, cherry, tannic, warming alcohol, bit of permanent market pen and nail polish remover with a drying finish. A bit harsh on the taste, but fun stuff overall.

Cask at Pigs’ Ear 2017. It pours darkest red – brown with a small beige head. The aroma is earthy, toasty, wood, umami, charred notes, cocoa, burnt fruit cake, leather and dull smoke. The taste is dry, charred wood, earthy roasted malts, stewed plum, date, savoury / umami character, burnt cocoa and liquorice. Finish is dry and toasty. Medium body and fine carbonation. Perhaps could be done with a touch more sweetness, as I am not sure the balance is quite there at the moment. Not bad overall.
