Description
The Bullfinch Brewery was first set up in the kitchen of former travelling sound engineer, beer enthusiast and home brewer Ryan Mclean.

Ryan's travels have ignited a passion and love for great beer. His continuing commitment to the quality of beer and his enthusiasm have created Bullfinch Brewery and its contemporary take on craft beer here in the UK.

Ryan has been brewing professionally since 2014 and is making progressive beers that blend experimental ideas with traditional brewing methods and techniques.

Hidden away under a railway arch in South East London Ryan can be found brewing his modern ideas on a much loved and used, historic 5 Barrel kit originally built by Charles Wells.

Keg at the brewery. Hazy red - amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is very light and airy with mild fine carbonation. Tangy generic fruits turning candy sweet. Touches of tangy lemon wnd cranberry. Little dust, not much. Light finish. Unusual flavour combo.

Keg at the brewery. Hazy amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light, semi dry. Fine crispness. Mild pumpkin, just modestly fruity. Mild spices, mercifully not overdone. Comes together reasonably well. Little more pumpkin fruit before the semi dry finish that also brings a carbonated nip.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a hazy medium amber with a thin broken white head. The aroma is yeast, grassy, barnyard hop. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a grass nettle hop palate and a lingering bitter finish.

Draft at the brewery taproom. Pours pinkish amber with a creamy white head. Tangy fruits in the nose, some cranberry and apple, soured grains. Light sweet flavor with tart berries, mild acidity, some meaty apples. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Some tannic berry skins on the finish, further tart fruits, mild grainy bread. Quite novel, pretty well balanced.

Draft at the brewery taproom. Pours mostly clear orange-gold with a creamy white head. Big autumnal spice nose, cinnamon, gingerbread. Light to medium sweet flavor with dry pumpkin and spices, some fleshy gourds, grainy brown bread, faint brown sugar. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Nicely balanced finish, not overdone with the spices, nice bready sweetness. Solid pumpkin beer.

Bottled 330ml (ABM)
Dark murky brown color, huge active off-white head, lace. Bready, ryeish and even a bit nutty aroma - not what to expect from American IPA. Medium-bodied. Ryeish with some piney bitterness, hints of toffee. Heavy or not very fresh. At least decent hop bite in the aftertaste. More like ESB than IPA. Active carbonation indicates some problems in the process, so possible better when fresh.

Keg at the brewery for the stout porter launch. Bit of a bitch to pour all head. Golden orange coloured pour with a lasting white head, light haze and some lace. Aroma is nice tropical fruits, peach and lychee, orange, galaxy hop. Flavour is crisp base malt, butter orange, background fruits. Big clean aggressive back of the throat bitterness. Palate is medium light, spritz carbpnayion and semi dry in the finish. Few too many IBU for me. Pretty tasty.

Keg at the Brewery. It pours hazy golden-orange with a medium white head. The nose is soft, fruity, minerals, earth, orange, mango and apricot. The taste is crisp, bitter, minerals, orange rind, tangerine, earth, grassy, pepper, lemongrass and straw with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Decent.
