Description
The Bullfinch Brewery was first set up in the kitchen of former travelling sound engineer, beer enthusiast and home brewer Ryan Mclean.
Ryan's travels have ignited a passion and love for great beer. His continuing commitment to the quality of beer and his enthusiasm have created Bullfinch Brewery and its contemporary take on craft beer here in the UK.
Ryan has been brewing professionally since 2014 and is making progressive beers that blend experimental ideas with traditional brewing methods and techniques.
Hidden away under a railway arch in South East London Ryan can be found brewing his modern ideas on a much loved and used, historic 5 Barrel kit originally built by Charles Wells.

Sampled from bottle. Hazy dark orange to reddish color, small off-white head. Smell and taste are malts, loads of hops, very fruity, nicely bitter, lightly resinous and some tropical fruits like pineapple. Medium body and carbonation. Very nice indeed.

330ml bottle. Opaque darkest brown colour with huge, thick, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige to tan head. Aroma is oscillating between citrusy hoppy and dark malty, with notes of lemon, lemon yoghurt on one side, coffee, mocha and dark chocolate on the other, and a herbal mixture of peppercress and green onions as hardly dividable encounter of both sides. Taste carries the same notes in a more compact, integrated and harmonic way, subtle malt sweetness, a cautious touch of orange (reminds of "Erfrischungsstäbchen"). Really nice, flawless, lacks only some body and deepness to be on a par with the absolute top class of the style.

Bottle shared. Dark brown color, lightly a dark red glare coming through, full sized beige head that lasts for a long time. Smell and taste malts, nicely hoppy, nicely bitter. Quite balanced I’d say, a good balance between the hops and the bitter anyway. Lingering bitterness and maltyness. Not bad, but I don’t get citrus in there.

Sampled from draught. Very dark brown to black color, medium sized beige to light brown head. Aroma is malts, nicely roasty, but would have loved a bit more hoppyness. Goes for the taste as well, but it’s certainly a nice beer. Lingering bitter piney finish.

Draft at the brewery during RBESG 2014. Pours rich brown with a creamy, tan head. The nose has good roasty malts, some dry earth and cocoa. Light to medium sweet flavor with bitter chocolate, minerals, scorched earth and pine. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Dry and roasty on the finish with more bittersweet cocoa. Very decent.
