Description
Steel City Brewing is a brewing company with a very new world outlook on life! Rather than buying our own brewery - with all the associated cost and hassle that entails - we have decided, initially at least, to become what's known in Europe as a "Cuckoo" brewery... We started off doing our first brews at The Brew Company, before capacity issues saw us move to Little Ale Cart, where we spent three years proving even the most Heath-Robinson brew kit can be used to make good beer! We then outgrew the kit moved to Toolmakers brewery, before moving again to Lost Industry in 2016.

When we started we were (and still are) huge fans of hops and there just weren't enough brewers in the UK using them, even though that sounds ridiculous in today's beer world. So, rather than moaning into our beer, we thought we'd do something about it and brew some of our own! Over time as the beer scene evolved, there was less need for our style of hoppy beers since everyone was brewing with them so we evolved too and widened our style portfolio.

Bottle Share at Ratebeer meet up, Cotteridge Wines, Cotteridge, Birmingham Saturday 5th March 2016 Pours murky brown in colour with a sticky off-white head. Hoppy Barley Wine, lovely beer the strength sort of hides the intense hoppiness. Good though, really good. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

Tasting at Mr Smith’s Skyflat. Thanks to Paul. Lightly hazy deep amber beer, massive pale tan head. Palate is airy, semi dry and has decent fine carbonation, a little over carbonated perhaps. Fluffy malts, mild creamy sweetness and a fair bit of unsweet toffee. Mild marmalade. Fair bit of hop bitterness, but it never gets too much. Little aniseed alcohol. Light dry finish. Tasty.

Bottle from Wine And Beer Direct, Halifax. Straw-yellow with a thick frothy head. Lots of hops, a fair amount of citrus which is at its greatest in its nose as its taste is less stated than you expect given it’s potency. There’s some acidity, some grapefruit, and a citrus bitterness.

Bottle shared at Leighton’s place. 7/1/2015. Many thanks to Paul and Lorna, Clear ruby reddy brown coloured pour with a lively cream coloured pour. Aroma is tangy toffee, apple, spicy hint of funk. Flavour is composed of rustic grains, toffee, crusty brown bread, little earthy funk. Palate is lively, frothy, semi sweet, grains. Hides the alcohol well. Little spicy finish.
