Description
Steel City Brewing is a brewing company with a very new world outlook on life! Rather than buying our own brewery - with all the associated cost and hassle that entails - we have decided, initially at least, to become what's known in Europe as a "Cuckoo" brewery... We started off doing our first brews at The Brew Company, before capacity issues saw us move to Little Ale Cart, where we spent three years proving even the most Heath-Robinson brew kit can be used to make good beer! We then outgrew the kit moved to Toolmakers brewery, before moving again to Lost Industry in 2016.
When we started we were (and still are) huge fans of hops and there just weren't enough brewers in the UK using them, even though that sounds ridiculous in today's beer world. So, rather than moaning into our beer, we thought we'd do something about it and brew some of our own! Over time as the beer scene evolved, there was less need for our style of hoppy beers since everyone was brewing with them so we evolved too and widened our style portfolio.

Bottle split at LKS, thanks to Bropey, 07/01/16. Rich chestnut brown with a big ole khaki covering that retains well. Nose is earthy hops, biscuit, toffee fudge, light spice, fruit loaf. Taste comprises fruit loaf, light spice, airy malts, toffee, light cocoa, caramel. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a little boost and peppered with hop bitterness. Decent hoppy strong, drinks under the ABV.

Bottle thanks to Lorna. Opens with a pop! It pours clear deep brown with a massive light tan head. The nose is earthy, bitter - sweet, brown bread, fresh pine, fruit cake, toffee and dried fruits. The taste is mighty bitter, spicy, brown bread, peppery kick, pine, varnish, resin, earth, some alcohol boost, earth and grapefruit with lingering bitter - dry finish. Medium + body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Rather nice all-round. More drinkable than it should be.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Paul. Pours clear amber with a massive, creamy khaki head. The nose holds a bit of carpet, old pine, dried fruits, leather. Big sweet flavor, a little syrupy, some gooey pine, rich grainy bread, toffee. Medium bodied with high carbonation. Warming finish, definitely some boozy kick, burnt grass, toffee, earth, dried fruits. Not bad overall.

Bottle thanks to Lorna, picked up at Beer Central, Sheffield. It pours black with a thick tan head. The nose is bitter - sweet, mild chocolate, rich roasted malt, creaminess, coffee and some jammy dark fruits. The taste is pretty bitter upfront, charred wood, hard roasted malts, milk chocolate, cacao nibs, burnt toast, liquorice, alcohol hit and some dark fruits with a lingering bitter - dry roasted finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Pretty bitter as one my expect from the steel city guys! Works rather well.

Bottle from Drink? Hebden Bridge. Golden-blonde with sediment and a very thin head. Hoppy, but not too dry with a good fruity aroma and taste, which has a low citrus base and a small bitterness.
