Pint bottle from who knows where and shared in Kuala Lumpur. Around nine years old. Poured almost black in colour with frothy round off-white head. The aroma is light roasty malt, raisins, blackberries, plums. The flavour is over moderate liqourice bitter, with a roasty, dry ashtray, coffee, earthy, mineral, red berry fruit, liqourice bitter palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.

(Bottle, thanks to Håkan) Dark brownish ruby colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, vinous nose with caramel, oak wood, dark cherries, plums, prunes, raisins, blackberries, dark bread and a touch of plum brandy. Malty, fruity, tart taste with notes of caramel, sour cherries, oak wood, raspberries, balsamic vinegar, plums, some chocolate and a slightly tart finish with a mild bitterness. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Complex and tasty, with lots of oak, caramel and tart fruit. Very nice.

On tap at High Water, pours a deep dark amber with a small white head. Aroma is on the hoppy side for the style even at this age, with resinous hops, bready malt and toasted caramel. Flavour is very sweet and syrupy, with lots of caramel malt, syrup, and subdued resinous hops. Too sweet and syrupy, without the body or complexity to match. Sweet, syrupy finish but not quite cloying. Not the best example in the style but it's decent.

On tap at High Water, pours a clear bright amber with a small white head. Aroma brings out some red wine barrels, gentle bugs, and some tart red berries. Flavour is tart and oaky, with lots of red wine barrels, oak, red berries, and moderate balsamic. Vinous, tart, and acidic in good balance. Far from a world class example of the style, but it's very competently done. Solid.

On tap at High Water, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma has plenty of peat upfront, with smoked bready malt and some black peppery notes. Flavour is odd, with an oddly tart malt character upfront, along with peated smoke, bready malt, and cracked black pepper. Peppery, weirdly smoky and tart finish. This isn't what I want in the style.

On tap at High Water, pours a clear golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of spicy galangal, citrus zest and light lacto. Flavour is full of spicy galangal, salt and lacto. Not feeling this — could be good but I don't get the gingery galangal character or much else of note. Okay.
