Lia Fail is dark reddish brown beer with medium blond head. Aroma is great: sweet malts, nice fruits and roasted malts. Flavour is slightly sweet, little roasted and flavour changes quicly to more bitter. Nice to drink despite of quite low alcohol procent. Pleasant hops finds aroma and flavour but otherwise too boring and Lia Fail would need something else to make this more interesting and then we would speak to top beer.

Cask, Bow Bar, Edinburgh. Brown with an off white head. Some malt, caramel and fruit in the aoma. Body is on the thin side (and I don’t dig anorexics man) Flavour has a sourness which spoiled this for me. Can’t see why this rates so high. Fail indeed.

Slightly cloudy golden beer with medium white head. Aroma is fruity and very temptating and reminds me for Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Lot of hops is found in the flavour and taste is fruity and pleasant but changes slightly musty in the end. Easy to drink but nicely balanced. Cascade hops -lovers beer with fruity aromas and flavours.

Cask-conditioned at the Three Guineas, Reading 29/5/08. Pale amber with a decent white head, that proved short-lived. Aroma of caramel balanced well by some grassy hops and fruit. Flavour started with some sweet malt before a decent, hoppy finish. A good effort.

[on draught in the Three Guineas, Reading] Amber with a moderate lasting head. Flavours are the standard best bitter ones - dusty straw, red fruits - but these are of greater depth than usual. They are balanced against a deep refreshing bitterness - more bitter than usual for the genre, and surprisingly bitter for a Scottish ale. All in all this is a very good example of the genre, but isn’t different enough to stand out.

(Cask at Punavuoren Ahven on 2008-04-19) Clear and light yellow. Hardly any head. Malts and hops in nose. Medium palate. Nice malty taste with some yeast and hops. Some nut flavours.

bottle - this poured brown and almost flat with just a little head and lots of yeast sediment. It had a light malty aroma. The flavor was sweet toasted caramel malt and not much else. There’s a little mild bitterness in there, but not enough to make me think it’s actually a bitter. Mouthfeel is on the thin side. Reading some of the other ratings, I’m not sure what happened to my bottle, but while drinkable it was no ways near worth the price. Retaste - This time around it was better. maybe I had a bad bottle before. There still isn’t much hops to be found, but it has a rich malt flavor with a hint of fruit and a nice medium body.

Bottle. Dark toasted malt aroma - between porter and stout. Dark amber color with a beige head. Medium body with near creamy carbonation. Flavor has a lot of resiny hop and dark/toasted malt. Not so sweet as many Scottish ales. Finishes relatively dry. Quite refreshing and tasty.

Cask. Amber colour, beige bubbly head. Aroma is caramel, fruits and wood. Flavour is wooden, fruity, mildly earthy hops as well as some nuts and nectar. Hides the alcohol totally.

Cask (gravity)@HBF 2008 Dark amber color, small white head. Woody-nutty hoppy aroma. Earthy, nutty, dried fruity flavor. Hoppy-alcoholic bite in the finish. Good drinkable high ABV cask ale. Not outstanding, but ok.
