(Cask at GBBF, London, 9 Aug 2007) Dark copper colour with brief beige head. Malty, nutty nose with clean malt aromas and hints of earthy, citrussy hops. Malty, nutty taste with dark fruit and balanced, earthy hops in a fairly dry finish. Good balance. Nice beer.

Amber copper in color with a mid sized beige head. Aroma is sweet malts, caramel, slightly sour, hops, and buttered toast notes. Flavor is milk chocolate, malts, toast, some grass hops, and caramel. Medium body. I really enjoyed this one.

Cask at Blackfriars, Glasgow. Gold, no head, dull lager, a little dusty, some puke, some hop. Not great. Pretty horrible UK lager.

500 ml bottle, at Blackfriars, Glasgow. ABV is 7.0%. Voted "Champion Beer of Scotland" - was it in 2004 or something? Beautiful dark amber colour, moderate head. Oaky sherry-like aroma with raisiny notes. Oaky / woody flavour where the alcohol is noticeable, but not too sweet. Bitter finish.

Copper with a small but lasting off-white head. Toffee, some butter and grass in the aroma. Sweet and caramel-y flavour

Cask gravity at GBBF 2007. Attractive chestnut colour with thin beige head. Ashtray, smoky. Decent fruit. Some malts. Bit too smoky though. Thinnish for a strong bitter. Biscuits.

On tap (in the suburbs of Inverness) Amber coloured, small persistent fluffy white head; malty, a bit caramelly and toasted nose with hoppy edges; spicy bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied; fruity-malty finish with a stronger bitterness in the aftertaste. A pleasant, well balanced brew...

Cask gravity at Kent BF 07. Gold, off white bubbly head. Rather attractive aroma. Very drinkable, excellent fruit. Good range of citrus fruits. Good condition. I liked it. Slightly flinty, but different from your usual bitter.

Cask gravity at Kingston BF 2007. Copper colour. Minerally, sharp, a little hard and tinny. Hops are on the earthy side. Drank it talking to a guy called Martin from South Wimbledon who was wearing a Horse Brass Pub polo shirt from Portland, Oregon. It really is quite flinty, the beer. Like licking a wall of a flint stone church with earthy hops growing up the side whilst sucking a Werther’s Original.
