650 ml bottle, purchased at Liquor Warehouse, downtown Chicago. Pitch black color with light tan head. Rich dark malt aroma of chocolate, coca powder, hints of vanilla.

Flavor is good balance of roasted chocolate flavors with a mild piney hop kick in the backend. Deep roasted grain body giving medium in feel, light creaminess on the tongue. Simcoe or Cascade hop pine toward the back end of the sip, hop presence is large. Very well constructed Porter... I enjoyed this a lot.

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on a gloomy Sunday after some good brunch. Appearance is a cloudy gold with a thin white head. Aroma is rather abundant in piney hops, mixed with grapefruit and light citrus. Taste is pretty good, bitter finish, high hops with low malt, enjoyable but a definite sipper.

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours super dark with a solid finger of dark tan head. Aroma is dominated by toffee, with hints of Roasty black coffee and a slight bit of dark chocolate. Taste is heavily bitter and light sweet. Toffee throughout, but more on the start. Strong Roasty coffee on the finish. Full bodied with a creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a super long finish. Awesome. Shoulda bought a second bottle, I’ll want more.

Purchased at West Lakeview Liquors in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home on a rare open Saturday night. Appearance is thick pitch black with a nice moderate tan head. Aroma is rather complex, nice notes of coffee, rich chocolate, licorice, hazelnut, lactose, smoke, really nice. Taste is very good, like a boozy chocolate brownie, huge chocolate and lactose flavor with smokey notes, light licorice, just really well done. One of my new favorite Chicago breweries.

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home on a frigid Monday night making some seitan. I’m a big fan of the name of this beer, from a brewery that is quickly becoming a local fave. Appearance is a cloudy bright gold with a huge billowy white head that laces to the glass. Aroma is a mixture of grassy hops, grapefruit, also smells like a bit of green tea in there as well, which I know there’s not. Taste is unique, finishes dry, retains its grapefruit notes, the lactose is a bit odd going with this, and I don’t think it’s the best ingredient for an IPA, but it’s a bit interesting. However, I do like this one.
