Clear copper color with off white head. The aroma is spicy and slightly fruity and is a bit on the mild side. Flavor starts off sweet from sugars or malt then turns a bit fruity (like grapes maybe) then some spiciness makes for a crisp mid flavor note. I also get some lemon tartness that begins about midway and proceeds to the finish where it’s joined by a sweet brown sugar flavor.

When I tried this, I was certain that this beer was a Beligian beer. It was only when I cam to this site did I realize that it was in fact an American beer. Really, it is an excellent imitation, with a very strong taste (I think it was the strongest beer I had tried to that point) and an intensely complex flavor. Poured it and a huge head came up next to a nice and dark body. Definately had a really fruity flavour (more so than the other beers of this style that I tried), apparently it is mixed with a lambic, so that would explain it. Strong complex taste with a very nice palate. Will probably try this again some time in my life, as it is always sold at Varsity Pizza.

Bottle. Light phenolic fruity nose. Cloudy red chestnut, creamy low head. Nutty and spicy base flavor, vineous, barrique, a bit gunpowder, dead yeast. Dry mouthfeel. Alcohols peek through in the aftertaste, fruity otherwise.

Bottle at Kookfest 2006. Pale gold, lasting white head. Belgian subtle yeasty aroma, some bananary estery aroma. Soft, drinkable. Cereal, lemon, banana, tingly finish. I liked it.

Amber body, small white head, diminishing to islands of bubbles. Yeast and malt nose consisting of fruits including pear, apricot and light plum. Musty earthiness and spice. The flavor is sweet with caramel, sugar and fruit on top of the mustiness. Tasty bitterness toward the end. Palate is clean and creamy enough, though a little sticky. Overall, enjoyable.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Hazy, pale amber golden with a small, off-white head. Rather sophisticated aroma of overripe fruit, sherry and some alcohol. Fairly full-bodied with sweetish, fruity notes, caramel - and perhaps some turpentine (?). Ends quite dry. Quite a refined beer. 290806

750ml bottle, brewed in 2005 - Pours a huge head. I had to pour it in stages even though I kept the pours slow. Some of the head lingers and leaves decent lacing. The aroma malty with yeast, a little cherry, and a trace of alcohol. The teast is sweet and yeasty with mild cherries, though the fruit wasn’t nearly as noticeable as I expected. There’s a medium body and too fizzy carbonation. What puzzled me most though was an odd, off tasting finish that lingered at the back of my mouth. Were my taste buds screwy that day or my bottle a little off from age/improper storage (I don’t have a cellar)? I don’t know. I guess I’d have to try another bottle sometime. The finish notwithstanding, this is a good beer, but I’d heard such strong word of mouth on it that I was expecting a really great beer. Like stoutlover72, I didn’t think it lived up to the hype.
