Cask at Cloisters. Pours hazy gold with a thin white head. Big hop aromas, tropical fruit, mango, honey as well. Slight soapy edge when tasted, good balance of bitter and sweet. Light body, smooth texture, easy drinking for the ABV. Nice.

500ml bottle from Appellation Wines, Comely Bank branch. Pours deep dark brown with a good off-white head. Big roasted aromas, lots of chocolate mixed in with the hops, a bit too much for me, more like a hoppy porter or stout. Taste continues this theme, toasty and citrus. Full-bodied, creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very enjoyable.

Bottle, 5.3 % abv, from Nina’s Mini Market. Black body with a brownish tint. Frothy, light brown head. Good amount of lacing. Mid-sweet, dark malty nose. Slightly smoked malty aroma, salty notes balanced by a chocolate touch. Dark fruity tartness towards the ending. A well balanced malt-accented brew (hotel room, Edinburgh 10.08.2013).

Bottled. A black beer with a huge fluffy dark brown head, seems infected. The aroma has notes coffee, brettanomyces, and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, coffee, and hints of brett, leading to a dry roasted finish. The body is light.

Bottle from Royal Mile Whiskies. It pours darkest brown with a medium beige head. The nose is roasty, dark fruit, berry, grape juice, light jamminess, toffee and faint smoke. The taste is toasty, earth, coffee, dark fruit, spice, vinous, toffee, light bitterness, charred wood and some smoke with a very dry finish. Light-medium body and average carbonation. Interesting and enjoyable. A bit more body and this could be great.

Bottle from Cloisters. Hazy golden body with a medium off-white head. Very light carbonation. Nice lacing. The aroma is not as powerful as I was expecting - hay, grain, honey, pine and soft citrus fruit. The flavours are well balanced and refreshing. Lemon and grapefruit - very dry finish. Thin body with an oily texture. Soft carbonation. A really dry, refreshing, well balanced beer.

Keg at the Hanging Bat. Pours clear golden yellow with good white head. Big aromas of grapefruit, mango, and tropical fruits generally. Some malt coming through finally. Initially thought it had too much hop bite, but this mellowed out over the course of the glass. Really nice beer for the strength. Excellent.

500ml bottle from Nina’s Mini Market. Pours a bubbly, light brown head with fine duration and good lacework to the glass. Dark as pitch. Dark malty nose with smell of cocoa breaking through. Roasted, almost burnt, malty taste, dark chocolate, pine needles, ash and some dark spices. Fresh malt bitter ending. Medium bodied. Pretty nice (hotel room, Edinburgh 08.08.2013).
