Bottle from BenH during Free Beer Week 2014. Big thanks. Dark purplish black, not much carbonation or head. Liquorice, plums, bit of charcoal and coffee. Sweet sugary taste with a bit of fruity plummy hop in the finish. Slightly thinner on the finish than one would expect. A proper imperial stout.

Bottle thanks to BenH during Free Beer Week. Thanks, Ben. Brownish black with a hint of indigo. Aroma of freeze-dried coffee, plums, cherries, liquorice and (if I’m not mistaken) a bit of smoke. Taste is bittersweet with a hit of savoury spiciness. Finish is more bitter, with a long drawn out aftertaste where the sweetness and spiciness reassert. Medium body with just the right amount of carbonation. The description says ’fruit mince porter’, but the brewer hasn’t gone overboard; rather, it’s a porter first and foremost, with a spiciness gilding the edges of an already respectable recipe.
