Description
De Kromme Haring is all about surprising, well-made, delicious and drinkable beers.

Biologist and homebrewer Stephen Grigg travelled from America via the UK to settle in the Netherlands as (homebrewery) De Kromme Haring. After meeting beer-afficionado Gijs van Wiechen, who invited him to brew the anniversary beer for infamous bar-dive Kafe Belgie, the two decided to "go pro" in 2014.

After the first tentative, educational and sometimes frustrating steps in contractbrewing they quickly decided that they needed their own system and place to pursue their aproach to brewing. This cunning plan came to fruition when they opened their very own brewpub in september 2016, with the brewery installed in december 2016.

With over 20 years of brewing experience, we have cultivated a deep love for English malts and American hops. However, we love yeast even more and believe that the quality of fermentation is at the core of all well-made beer. Knowing how to work with many different kinds of yeast, both "clean" and "wild", is what sets us apart.

Our brewery and yeast lab allows us to experiment with lesser known and used yeast strains in our brewery. Part of our brewery is even dedicated to stainless steel fermenting with wild yeasts like Brettanomyces and/or blended cultures, creating surprising and delicious flavours.

thnx to Kevin Devos ! Pours unclear blonde. Small white head. Smell is mild smoke, fleshy, with a zesty, tart undertone . Taste is mild smoked, sharp zesty, lemon tartness. quite drinkable, even though I don't like smoked at all, i must admit this does work . medium thin body, med high carbo, working great with the tartness. a well balanced, easy drinkin but unique beer. peaches don't really show. nice

Tap. Gist, Brussels. Served in a De Kromme Haring glass. Class. Pale gold. Light haze. Bubbly, white head settles to a dense, lasting film. Nose has sweetened rhubarb. Peach flesh hop. Light, woody, bretty funk. Taste is a nice balance of sweet and lightly sour. Light to medium body. Spritzy carbonation. Fairly drying. Light sour finish, with a touch of hop bitterness. Nice one.

"Twisted kipper" is about as literal as "Kromme Haring" can be translated, nice find in terms of name-giving related to fish as this brewing project tends to do. Fresh from tap at Dok Brewing Company in Ghent, thanks Craftmember for sharing. Egg-white, medium thick, stable head lacing in shreds over a misty peach blonde beer with warm orange golden hue. Aroma of moldy grapefruit, stale armpit sweat, old 'hop urine', cheese crackers, lemon peel, dried apricot, green olive. Fruity onset in a clean way, dried fig and apricot, pineapple and lychee accents, sharp and minerally carbonation (bit too much for the style), biscuit- and cracker-like malt 'underground', powdery feel in the finish, hayish and grapefruity hoppiness, zesty and colourful with the intentional yeastiness adding a slight funky touch as well as complexity. Almost a 'Belgian style IPA' in certain ways (the yeastiness), complex, zesty and earthy, very interesting and tasty.
