Description
The Croglin Brewery was a small 2.5 barrel brewery located in the basement of the Croglin Castle Hotel in Kirkby Stephen. The brewery changed ownership and name to become The Nine Standards Brewery in August 2011, before relocating to Settle in 2012 to become the Settle Brewery. Some beers are still brewed using the Nine Standards brand.

Head brewer, Ian, has been churning out the good stuff for many a year. Born in 2012, Settle Brewery has been using traditional brewing methods coupled with working with local & seasonal ingredients to produce an arsenal of siba award-winning beers.

Half-pint, cask ale at Little Ale House. Stable pearl white head, dark golden body, clear. Fair lacing. Smell of mid-sweet malts and herbal hops. Blended taste of earthy malts, ripe fruit, and a semi-sweet malty base. Mid dry malt-fruity endnotes. Soft on the swallow. Pretty fair. (Harrogate 07.07.2022).

Half-pint, cask ale at Little Ale House. Filmy layer, clingy lacing, clear amber body. Earthy malts and lemony hops on the nose. Flavoured with fruity grain, hints of caramel, earth, and nuts. Short bittersweet tail. Quite alright. (Harrogate 07.07.2022).

Cask-conditioned at the Cornubia, Bristol 12 February 2022. Deep amber in colour, with a frothy, off-white, head. Large amounts of orange character, some marmalade sweetness, leafy hops, crisp malts and a moderately bitter finish. Enjoyable.

Cask. Birch Hall Inn, Beck Hole. Amber with a tight off white foam. Nose of soft caramel malt. Orange peel. Touch of spice. Sweet and malty with a firm bitterness. Creamy mouthfeel. Light bitter finish. Excellent cask number.

19/11/2021. Cask at the Harwich & Dovercourt Bay Winter Ale Festival 2021. Pours very dark brown with a small bubbly off-white head. Aroma of ash, chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruit, touch of liquorice. Medium sweetness, light roasted bitterness. Moderate body, oily watery texture, soft carbonation.

Cask at the White Cross, Lancaster. Pours clear golden with a thin white head. Light citrus and floral aromas. Light sweet taste. Not a right lot going on.

Cask @ Flying Horse Hotel, Rochdale. Golden with a creamy head. Has a stewed fruity aroma and taste with a lower bitterness factor to this.
