Description
What does it mean to be proud of what you’d done, and to celebrate it at the end of a long, hard day? What does it mean to feel like a neighbor to the stranger sitting next to you? What does it mean to know you have somewhere you belong?
After many years of brewing and the many awards that have adorned Haymarket Beer, Peter L. Crowley understands a thing or two of what makes a great beer. We named our company – Haymarket Beer Company – in honor of those ideas and the people who took pride in them and worked hard to protect them. (That’s a great story, by the way, and you should read more about it.)
We’ve built Haymarket out of everyday people – office workers and school teachers, stonemasons and police officers, plumbers and postal workers – with one promise: making great beer for great beer drinkers. It means that even as we grow, that we never lose sight of what got us where we are today – each other.
Forgive us for getting mushy – this kind of stuff doesn’t come out well through a computer screen. Come and see us the next time you’re in town. We’ll show you what we mean.

Small head with short duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are roast malt, bourbon, wood, vanilla, chocolate and hops. Quite a lot of alcohol in the finish.

Consumed a growler as "Indignant Imperial Stout - Angel’s Envy Port Barrel" thanks to Thorpe429. Thanks! Poured like motor oil with no head to speak of. Port notes, some roasted grains. Slightly sweet. Smooth and very enjoyable.

Tap at Haymarket pub and brewery, Chicago - 04/11/12. Lightly hazed dark golden with a thin off white head that soon clears to a pond and the edge of the glass. Nose is a little soapy, pine, hops but the soap is just a shade too prominent. Tastes of pine, hops, tropical fruit, mineral tones, a little peppery and once again a touch of soap but enough to detract from a good tasting beer. Medium bodied with soft carbonation leading to a bitter finish.

Tap at Haymarket pub and brewery, Chicago - 04/11/12. Very dark mahogony brown in the light, approcaching black when not, with a thin tan head. Nose is roast malt, hops, toffee and some chocolate. Tastes of roast malts, leather, liqourice, molasses with a great hoppy backbone. Medium to full in body, soft carbonation. Almost akin to a Black IPA as much as a stout! Tidy drop.
