Like a bad lager mixed with some honey syrup. My first impression of Honey Moon was that it doesn’t really taste like beer. It’s more like a really bad light cider mixed with artificial honey. The honey flavor really isn’t all bad, but the grainy off-flavored malt and non-existent hops kill it for me. I’d like to give it a lower score, but it’s definitely not at quite the depths of something like cheap malt liquor. The aroma is disappointingly weak. The appearance is poor at best. The beer is an odd color, a light sickly yellow, with an awful fizzy head that immediately dissipates to nothing. I generally don’t care about appearance, but some of these big mass-produced beers look very odd, especially the sweet ones. The feel is way more cloying than it should be, particularly for a beer made with honey. A bad, ugly beer.

Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a chunky-hazy yellow-beige color with a huge yellow-white head. The aroma was tart lemon, lightly yeasty and had a dry spicy undertone. The flavor was strongly musty with moderate lemon, pepper, coriander and a had a tart, tangy and yeasty undertone with a hint of candi sugar. A bit of alcohol showed through. The finish was long and the body was fairly thick and full. Good.

10th October 2008. GABF. Leaving the hall at the end of the session a Blue Moon rep pounced with this beer so what the hell! Pale gold beer. Light crisp palate. More than a bit surprised to find the grapes do give this beer a winey slant and with the crisp palate it is a decent beer. Just wish I’d tried their Peanut Beer now....

Sampled at the January ’10 Metro Detroit tasting. Thanks to whoever brought this! Poured a cloudy gold with a medium white head. Aroma had notes of citrus peel, coriander, and light fruit. Flavor was subdued at the start but a spicy finish led by the coriander.

Pours hazy gold with a foamy white head. Light aromas of citrus zest and a bit of spice. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is a litte bready, a little banana, some definite citrus zest. Pretty good. Leaves a bit of herb in the mouth.

22 oz bomber from Bevmo Salinas. Nose of banana, yeast, spices, and white bread. Murky yellow orange with a medium pale yellow head. Flavor is pepperiness, banana, cloves, and yeasty breadiness.

19th September 2009. Cloudy orange amber beer. A bit watery but not erribly so. Fruity - a bit more orange than lemon. Serviceable beer.

Bottle at Once Upon a Vine - North on 12/23/2009. Cloudy orange body with a medium frothy white head. Sweet orange and spice aroma. Big fruit and spice flavor with some lemon hints. Medium body with moderately high carbonation. Really not a bad beer, but at $8 a bottle, priced way too high for what it is.

Bottle. Sweet orange/lemon and wheat malt aroma. Cloudy orange-yellow color with small head. Sweet orange/lemon and wheat malt flavor with light orange peel finish. Nice but not worth the price.

12 oz bottle. Aromas of sugar, cheese, caramel malt. Pours amber with a thin head, average lacing. Taste is a little sweet, ends slightly bitter. Pretty gross, actually. Full-bodied, though. Probably the worst winter beer I’ve ranked so far. Abbey Dubbel, huh? What a joke.
