From a 330ml bottle on 23/11/2024. Pours a deep, murky brown with pretty much no head. Has a malty nose, with lots of brown sugar and dark fruit. On the sip, it features more brown sugar, toffee, dates prunes and light vinous and whisky notes. Quite sweet but with a nice countering sharp, tangy bitterness. Full bodied with a slick palate and moderate carbonation. A lovely complex, big fireside sipper.

Boatrocker have been on an English jag recently, but I didn't expect a 3.5% bitter. Copper with a beige head that's soon a coat. Malty aroma with breadcrust, mild spices, some dried fruit. So it tastes. Dryish with moderate spicy bitterness. Does what they set out to do.

Bottle. Can't see a date but seems it was only released 2022. Amber with a dense fat white coat that fades slowly. Aroma of old lemons, oak, wheaty crackers, quite caramelly whisky. More body than expected and a little off dry with whisky and yellow peach, crackers, then zingy/ peppery Brett gently comes in with moderate sourness. Oaked finish. Mellow. I like unusual ways of achieving balance.

Sample courtesy of Cheeseboard, cheers Simon! Orangey gold colour, thin bubbly white foam head and aroma of oak, apple, dried fruits, bretty funk. Taste is sour, dried fruity, melon, pineapple, apple, citrus, zesty, woody, cheese, with funky notes. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry soured funky finish. Nicely drinkable.

Can. Dark brown with a tan head that fades to a fat coat. Aroma of mocha, licorice, singed caramel, some dried fruit, spices. Rich with a good spicy bitter kick. Quite a lot of caramel, some fruity and roasty depth. Plenty going on for the modest ABV. Good stuff.

Bottle. Black. A coat of tan head doesn't last. Aroma of Welsh cake, roast and mocha, some liquorice, medium sherry, sweet shop spices. Then a lot less stouty upon a swig, with sultanas and brioche, undertones of mocha and roast, vanilla/ oak/ caramel whisky notes that build. Bitterness is just supporting. Good but not bold.
