On tap at my hotel in Exeter. Pours a hazy dark gold with plenty of creamy, white head. Nose has treacle, honey, malt. Butterscotch. Hmm. Flavor is remarkably drier, malt, toffee chew, honey, dough. Finishes lightly sweet and doughy.

At a tasting, thanks, stable bubbly head, clear dark copper color, aroma of honey, candy and some nuttiness, malty candy bready flavor, sweet and bland. Avoidable.

From old tasting notes. Labeled as Whitbread's Gold Label Barleywine. Brewed by Whitbread and Co., PLC in London, England. Clear Amber orange color. Big rocky tan head. Rich, malty aroma, reminiscent of Scotch whiskey. Thick, sticky mouth coating feel. Sweetish malt flavor upfront that turns salty and bitter. Almost buttery. Strong from the word go! Warming alcohol notes. Interesting.

Keg (not nitro) halfpint at Beaumont House, Dublin. Served very cold. Deep golden to brown colour, white head. Moderate aroma, some malts. Dry flavour with some bittering hops, lacks depth or complexity.

Can. Clear amber color, big nitro head. Nose: pale and toasted malts, fruity yeast. Light to medium body. Soft carbo. The tasting starts with sweetish biscuity malts. The middle is hollow. Light grassy bitterness finishes. Hoppy aftertaste. Not a highlight of English brewing I suppose.

From old tasting notes. Honey gold color. Thick white head is mousse-like. Subtle yeasty malt aroma. Smooth creamy malt flavor has a softness to it, and a very pleasant mouthfeel that makes you want more. Pleasant hop finish. Tasty.
