Description
Hogs Back Brewery was founded in 1992 in Tongham, and bought by current owner Rupert Thompson in 2012. In 2014, Hogs Back planted its own hop field on land adjacent to the brewery, bringing the traditional but near-extinct White Bine hop variety back to its Surrey home.

We’re a small family-owned brewery tucked away in the village of Tongham, in the heart of the old Surrey hop-growing region. Still an independently owned brewery, Hogs Back owe much of their success to their iconic, flagship real ale 'TEA' (Traditional English Ale) - a firm favourite of cask-conditioned real ale drinkers throughout the UK and a multi-award winning brew year-in, year-out.

Cask at The Crosse Keys, JDW, London. Pours dark, amber-brown with a frothy, off-white cap. The aroma holds toasted sugars, sweet malts and caramel. Flavor is medium sweet with a creamy, toffee and caramel character. There is some toast, grapes and other ripe fruits, dough, jam. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet, slightly sticky finish with mostly toasted caramel and doughy bread. Not a great beer by any means, but there are some fun aspects to it.

Pours black with a small tan head.Nose shows chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, prunes, golden syrup, brown sugar and bready malt. Pretty nice stuff.Similar flavours with lots more roasted malt, chocolate, golden syrup and sweet, sugary dried fruit. A bit cloying, and there’s an off-putting chalky/doughy note.Body feels a little watery.
