Handpull cask at the Two-Tailed Lion, Leicester. Mid-golden and clear with a film of off-white head. Light aroma, some grainy character, some grapefruit with light floral perfume. Sweet taste, a little honey and white grapefruit flesh with a touch of soap, leading to a gentle hop bitterness. Medium to long clean finish, some lemon zest in the aftertaste. Low carbonation with a slight to medium oily body. Simple but very well-made.

Can. Almost opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Palate is smooth and has mild dryness, decent fine carbonation. Brewed to a 19th century recipe, you might expect this to taste old skool and it doesn't disappoint. In fact the retro nature of this one is it's charm. Smooth malts, a touch of malt cream that doesn't get too sweet. A touch of chocolate, again not that sweet. Mellow coffee, slightly earthy, dominates the back end, along with a touch of soft overripe fruit. Smooth semi dry finish. Comes together very well. Always nice to revisit the past and if the stuff they were drinking 150 years ago tasted like this, I bet it was immensely popular.

Cask at Egham Beer Fest. Citrus aroma. Hazy muted amber. Frothy foamy white head. Tangy citrus and quinine. Sweet edge.Light-medium bodied. Slick. Flat-average carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. Enjoyable if not overly exciting.

Can from The Rusty Bucket, Eltham. Black pour with a tan head. Aromas of chocolate, vanilla, nuts, digestive biscuit, caramel. Flavours of nutty chocolate, caramel, digestive biscuit, creamy coffee, vanilla. Creamy sweet malty aftertaste.

Keg at Brewdog Soho, London. A black coloured pour with a healthy beige head on top. Rich, roasty, malty, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon aroma. Tastes similar rich, sweet, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, slight caramel. An excellent imperial stout.

Cask at the Flower Pot, Derby bimble, 11/02/22. Lightly murky golden orange with a decent off white cap that escapes edgewards. Nose is ripe citric flesh, melon, grass, tangerine. Taste comprises bitter citric shreds, grass, soft malts, bread dough, tangerine, melon. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close splashed with mellow hop bitterness. Ok.

11/2/2022. Keykeg at the 12th Elysian Winter Beer Festival. Pours slightly hazy golden amber with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma of orange, tropical fruits, caramel, pine, flowers, leafy notes. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness and body. Creamy mouthfeel, average carbonation. Enjoyable.
