Marston’s love beer. The company has evolved since 1834 and has added many different breweries along the way. With different breweries, comes different brewers and with different brewers, come different ideas. This is how the Revisionist beer series was created. A platform to give our vast array of brewers a chance to brew the beer they want to see in our portfolio.

Starting with 5 individuals back in 2012, they were given the opportunity to offer their take on beer styles, to push the boundaries and produce something new. The Revisionist team is now made up of 14 brewing experts, all with unique ideas to create an intriguing portfolio.

Bottle. Nose is yeasty, bubbblegum, slight banana cloves, on style. Taste is wheat, leading to banana and cloves, a little white chocolate in the spicy bitter finish. Odd notes of orange and red berry. Mouthfeel fine. Passable supermarket beer.

Bottle from Tesco Enniskillen [190115]
Ruby brown, clear, frothy white head, good lacing
Aroma of citrus, lemon zest, grapefruit, good juicy zest nose, not getting the malt initially
Taste of caramel malts, spicy rye malts, decent amount of citrus zest hops, plenty of flavour, less hoppy than aroma but still decent
Palate - soft carb, medium body, fairly bitter, clean palate. Finish of bitter zest, spicy
Overall - Decent drop, good flavour for the abv

Bottle from Tesco, Longford [211114]
Golden amber, clear, thin frothy white head
Aroma of soft lemon, bit spicy, light malts
Taste of soft lemon, some bitter spicy hops, dab of spicy yeast, pale malt background
Palate - soft carb, medium body, bit oily. Finish is more bitter, bit zesty hops, slightly harsh afters
Overall - A golden ale with some soft spicy yeast notes. Not really a Saison. Average - not bad for a supermarket beer

500ml bottle: BBD 24 Feb 15. Opened while working in a hot kitchen (at home) on 13 Oct 14. Looked good, pours a deep amber with a reddish hue, on top an off-white crown. Aroma of hops and dark berries with just a hint of malty molasses.. Taste of semi-bittering hops, biscuity malts and fruitiness. OK and an ideal beer to cook with: not going to trouble your senses but worth having a bottle to yourself.

500ml bottle: BBD 28 Feb 15. Opened in my kitchen on 13 Oct 14 while cooking a couple of curries. I needed an uncomplicated beer to quench my thirst and something a little different to a lager/pilsner style brew. This fitted the bill nicely. Dark brown with a ruby red hue, the head a full beige topping. Nose was semi-sweet malts with some earthy hop hints. Taste wise it led with mild maltiness and berry notes, a mixed bag of other fruits tempered the sweetness while traces of spice and piney hops came through. Mini-bitter finish and overall not a bad ’kitchen beer’.

500ml bottle from B&M. Hazy golden colour with a big white head. Aroma has more hop than I expected. Very refreshing flavour and with more hop. Not a standard lager.

Aroma and flavour are quite complex. Dominated by the roastiness of the dark malts. Hints of cocoa. Hop bitterness is present but not overpowering.

Clear brown colour. Very aromatic with some floral hops. Smooth easy to drink beer with pleasant bitterness. Quite full flavoured. Finish offers some toasty, malty flavours.
