Description
Ridgeway Brewing was established in 2002 by master brewer Peter Scholey (former head brewer at Brakspear) and his wife Vanda. The name comes from the ancient trade route that winds its way through English countryside between small towns. It has been around for thousands of years, adapting with the changing times, The reason why we chose the name Ridgeway, apart from living on it, was that we hope to create lasting experiences, believe in the long term and love the outdoors.

Golden color. Some idden grassy hops in the aroma. Sweetish malt flavor, light vegetables. It ends a bit boozy. And in the end there is a bit too much alcohol too, Nothing special.

Beautiful amber color, thin cremy head. Some malt aroma, light alcohol. A bit oily, some malt, very warm, almost burning alcohol; strong ending bitterness. Not impressive booze.

Bottled. Ruby red colour, small white bubbly head. Not much aroma, some weak hops and malts. Flavour also quite quite non-existing, weak malts and cooked vegetables along with grassy finish. Not too exciting. Weak hints of wood too. .

Meh. It looked and smelled better than it turned out to be. Pours a very dark reddish brown, but dark enough to be black in the glass. Minimal head and lacing. Aroma is rich with roast, burnt chocolate, caramel and grassy citric hops. Flavor fairly light and sweetish, with an astringent finish. Not terribly enjoyable, and I used the rest of the bottle in a big pot of chili, in which it worked pretty well.

Cloudy dark brown with no head - aroma of tobacco, toffee and damp coffee grounds that have been sitting in the machine for a few days - quite sour to start - this makes way for a mild roastiness and a rather prominent and unpleasant ash flavor - burnt/stale coffee flavor makes its way in - this beer is very out of whack - as has been noted, it’s a stout, but it has sour ale qualities - mix old coffee in and you’ve got yourself one palate-confusing beer.

Golden color, nice foam. Green hoppy aroma, a bit metallic. Good mouthfeel, quite round and some malt, plus caramel and a strong bitterness, with herbal aromatic hops. Strong but balanced final. A good example.

Bottle - almost no carbonation - clear copper - aroma of hops and butterscotch - a bit sour - dominated by stale hops and thin caramel malt - a bit thin-bodied - highly evident alcohol - looks and tastes pasturized - not that good.

Bottled (BB 03/2007)
Copper brown, good foamy off-white head. Hoppy, spicey, grassy aroma. Grassy, spicey (hints of ginger and cinnamon), woody flavor with burned toffee. Not much alcohol shown here and hops are not very aggressive. Drinkable but "winter welcome" is too much said here.

Bottle. Sweet apple malt aroma with hints of toffee/caramel. Light amber color with large head. Slightly sweet apple flavor - still with hints of toffee and a moderate hops finish - would have expected more with the description. Light bodied. Not great but not offensive.

Sample from WFM. These holiday-gimmick beers always seem to be below average and this is no exception. Clear reddish amber with a thin off-white head and minimal lacing. The aroma is vaguely sweet malt and caramel. Medium bodied and a little watery with malt and fruit flavors. Some bitterness as well but it is distracting more than anything. The finish is metallic and lightly bitter. Not worth going back to.
