Description
Spearheading the barrel-ageing movement from Scotland, The Original bourbon barrel-aged beer is the one that started Innis & Gunn when Master Brewer Dougal Gunn Sharp founded the brewery in 2003.
Innis & Gunn was contract brewed in Glasgow at Tennent's Wellpark Brewery since 2014. On 15 November 2018 Tennent's announced the brewing contract will be terminated with effect from September 2020. Innis & Gunn responded the following day by saying they plan on opening their own brewery.
The Innis & Gunn Brewery in Perth is our home for innovation and barrel-ageing. With plans to build a new large scale brewery in our hometown of Edinburgh, it will be the first new large brewery to be built in the capital in 150 years.

Bottle: Poured a dark black color stout with a dark brown foamy head with some light retention and some minor lacing notes. Aroma of chocolate notes with light dry bitter notes with some light scotch and port notes. Taste is also a mix of chocolate malt notes with some light dry bitter notes with some light barrel=aged notes of scotch and port with a semi-dry finale. Body is a bit thin for style with good carbonation with no clear discernible alcohol notes. Not bad but barrel-aged notes could have been more pronounced.

December 2009: 330 ml clear bottle in cardboard box, now available in Norway at Vinmonopolet, bestillingsutvalget- also at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.4%. Clear mahogany coloured beer with an off-white to beige head. Intense aroma of oak rum cask, notes of vanilla, spices, alcohol, brown sugar, treacle, rum-raisin and dark dried fruits. The flavour is distinctly oaky, but more mellow and rounded without the strong notes of fresh wood compared to the ordinary Innis & Gunn. Moderate sweetness, moderate notes of rum and spices, dry finish, very moderate hops. Should not be drunk too cold.
