Description
Spearheading the barrel-ageing movement from Scotland, The Original bourbon barrel-aged beer is the one that started Innis & Gunn when Master Brewer Dougal Gunn Sharp founded the brewery in 2003.

Innis & Gunn was contract brewed in Glasgow at Tennent's Wellpark Brewery since 2014. On 15 November 2018 Tennent's announced the brewing contract will be terminated with effect from September 2020. Innis & Gunn responded the following day by saying they plan on opening their own brewery.

The Innis & Gunn Brewery in Perth is our home for innovation and barrel-ageing. With plans to build a new large scale brewery in our hometown of Edinburgh, it will be the first new large brewery to be built in the capital in 150 years.

Bottle 0,33l. Golden brown. A creamy lasting head leaving patterns on the glass. Some burntness in the aroma. A soft sweet flavour. You have a whisky feeling in the aftertaste. No bitterness. More peculiar than good.

Clear straw color, with minimal but lasting head - very oaky, vanilla aroma, with touches of whiskey, buttered toast - very distinctive oak and whiskey character in the flavor, but not an overwhelming one like in a lot of beers aged in barrels - somewhat bready but overly sweet - honey and spice in the finish - it’s a shame they filter and pasturize this; it would probably be a hell of a lot better if they didn’t.

Bottled. A golden beer with an off-white head. Lots of wood and smoke in the aroma, and some malt too. The flavor has smoke and bacon in it, along with a malty sweetness. Lightly cloying, sweet finish and a medium to full body. Goes well with dark chocolate. Rating: 6-4-6-4-13-3.3. (060428)

Bottle. It pours a clear, golden body and a diminishing, minimal off-white head. Malty, toffeeish nose with butterscotch and vanilla, some fruityness, and a hint of something in the middle between caraway seeds and anise. A bit more warming in the mouth than suits the beer, giving a hint of whiskey. Full-bodied and almost sticky sweet. The flavor is on the sweet side, with toffee and vanilla, some alcohol and fruityness, a little bitterness, and some spicy stuff. Long, toffeeish and vanilla-flavored finish with a little bitterness. A quite flavorful beer, but it’s not flavors that suits my palate too well, it actually feels a bit un-natural, but sure, I can drink a bottle every now and then. (090620)

Bottled (BB 04/2006)
Amber color, good creamy off-white head. Aroma has oak wood and vanilla. Medium bodied. Very sweet toffeish. Lots of oak barrel, whiskey and vanilla flavors. Barrel maturing comes quite clearly to flavor and aroma but overly too sweet to be really good one. (6/4/6/3/12 3.1)
. [Bottled] (BB 04/2007).
Amber color, small white head. Flowery hoppy, oaky nose. Alcoholic, flowery hoppy with whiskey and vanilla presence. As someone said, a bit similar to Duckstein. (6/4/6/3/12 3.1)

Bottle.Compared to the "regular" Innis & Gunn I like this far better! The oak taste has matured well and the beer feels more luxurious.Dark brown color, small head. Delicate oak and vanila scent. Great taste of balanced malt and oak.

First ratingInitial Rating Date: 3/29/200633 cl bottle from Swedish "Systembolaget" on March 24.Clear brown color, almost to red. Creamy head. Very odd o rat least unusual scent, reminds of grains and whisky. Mot likely from the aging in oak barrels. Taste is a bit musky and heavy, feels like it’s been too short period of time in the oak to have "matured" that flavor.6/5/5/3/11=3.0RerateMay 200933 cl bottle left at home by a friend a while backClear deep golden to pale copper color, fluffy white head. Wood, oak, dry, acidic, lactic scent. Lactic, acidic, grainy, malty, dry taste. Medium mouthfeel, medium to medium low bitterness. This must’ve gone bad somehow, feels infected and sour.4/4/4/3/8=2.3
