Description
Spearheading the barrel-ageing movement from Scotland, The Original bourbon barrel-aged beer is the one that started Innis & Gunn when Master Brewer Dougal Gunn Sharp founded the brewery in 2003.

Innis & Gunn was contract brewed in Glasgow at Tennent's Wellpark Brewery since 2014. On 15 November 2018 Tennent's announced the brewing contract will be terminated with effect from September 2020. Innis & Gunn responded the following day by saying they plan on opening their own brewery.

The Innis & Gunn Brewery in Perth is our home for innovation and barrel-ageing. With plans to build a new large scale brewery in our hometown of Edinburgh, it will be the first new large brewery to be built in the capital in 150 years.

330 ml clear bottle, at Cardinal, Stavanger. Beautiful golden brown colour. Large and creamy off-white head, long lasting, decent lacing. Unusual aroma and flavour, very woody, Scotch whisky elements, but also notes of toffee, vanilla, cinnamon - and even shrimp and the dark meat of crabs(!). Relatively sweet, but the finish and aftertaste are woody, dry and hoppy. Something out of the ordinary, and I have trouble deciding how well I really like this beer. Definitely worth a try!

Dark amber colour. Ok head. Sweet-ish vanilla aroma, smells a bit like Canadian whiskey. Sweet-ish bourbon flavour. I don’t like bourbon.

Dark amber color. The aroma is dominated by the Bourbon vanilla, with a touch of orange flowers and curaçao. An average Ale, even if original, with some residual sweetness, a touch of milk chocolate and cocoa butter, caramel, vanilla. Well balanced. Pleasant without thrill.

An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of wood and caramel - and so is the flavor. Not much different from the standard I&G.

This ale pours a beautiful dark orange colour with a nice frothy white head. First sniff I found scents of vinegar and wine at the start. Sweet wine like a port. After that the whiskey kicks in. First sip was almost peaty with a trace of smoke. Sweet with caramel amd syrup. The finish is very much full of the malt whiskey it boasts on the label. Pretty sweet too. Still a hint of malt vinegar at the end. Palate nice and a slight bitter on the tongue. Good but only for a couple.

Bottle. Creamy, smokey whiskey aroma. Dark copper colour. Flavour is also smokey in a sort of creamy way, perhaps vanilla. Interesting, and I like it.

A hazy orange-amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with primary notes of caramel, but also light notes of oranges. The flavor sweet with strong notes of caramel, but also hints of acidity, wood, and whiskey. It has slightly more character than the standard Innis & Gunn, but not much considering, that it has been on barrel 366 days compared to usually 47. Thanks to Ian of BSF for this beer.

A hazy amber beer with a collapsing brown head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of whiskey and caramel, and lesser notes of alcohol and smoke. The flavor is also very sweet, which makes it sticky in the mouth. It has notes of whiskey and caramel, as well as hints of smoke. A lovely thick caramelized beer-whiskey.

Red amber ale with a thin lacing white head. Some skunk escapes, then some whiskey barrel wood comes out with light hops. In mouth, again malty scotch with light restrained hops, but rather thin in finish. A good beer for the oak age crowd.
