Description
Spearheading the barrel-ageing movement from Scotland, The Original bourbon barrel-aged beer is the one that started Innis & Gunn when Master Brewer Dougal Gunn Sharp founded the brewery in 2003.

Innis & Gunn was contract brewed in Glasgow at Tennent's Wellpark Brewery since 2014. On 15 November 2018 Tennent's announced the brewing contract will be terminated with effect from September 2020. Innis & Gunn responded the following day by saying they plan on opening their own brewery.

The Innis & Gunn Brewery in Perth is our home for innovation and barrel-ageing. With plans to build a new large scale brewery in our hometown of Edinburgh, it will be the first new large brewery to be built in the capital in 150 years.

Bright copper colour. Vanilla, wood and caramel aromas shoot forth. The flavour is sweet. Grainy notes are infused with prominent wood and vanilla. A refined, drinkable beer, if a little lacking in complexity.

Bottle: Poured a light copper color ale with a medium head with average retention. Aroma of malt is pretty discreet with some noticeable English hops. Taste has some recognisable floral malt with a slightly bitter finish. I’m not too sure about the oak aged aspect since I thought it was hard to distinguish and almost seems like a marketing gimmick…

330ml bottle from Asda. Have put off having this for the past couple of years because I knew that I would hate it. And I do. I mean what the hell does it think it is? What is it trying to be? I’m old fashioned enough (ok I’m only 34 but I’m working on it) to believe that beer should be beer flavoured. Subtle flavours, hints of one thing or another, I can deal with. This? OK lets start from the beginning. Orange copper coloured beer with lasting whit e head. Looks perfectly fine. Then you take a whiff of it and suddenly you are transported to the inside of a tree. Why, what is the point? Yes some vanilla, some interesting fruit some boiled toffee flavour. Otherwise absolutely horrible.

Brilliant amber-orange color. A senous nose of oak, caramel, a touch of smoke and a pale malty nose. It kind of reminded me of a chardonnay. Light-med body with oak, smoke and whisky notes. Very oaky finish with a touch of scotch. if you like oak, you will like this beer.

Bottled. Dark amber. Aroma of honey and oak. Sweet and clean with obvious cask character. Notes of vanilla and sugar. Low bitterness. Too light bodied. Lovely aroma, but a bit empty.

Sweet malt aroma and dark tan color. Sweet tasting - distinct whisky malt flavor without being overwhelming or too smoky. Palate a bit weak but overall a good beer.

Golden to amber color. Intense aroma, peculiar; malt, mushrooms, vegetables (artichokes…) ; sweet and lightly smoked. Interesting flavor, some malty sweetness, then similar sensations as for the aroma; correct bitterness, raising at the end. Really original. Thanks Rauchbier for this bottle.

An amber or nutbrown beer with a fine yellow head. The aroma is very fruity and very hoppy with notes of strawberries. The flavor is sweet malty with a very hoppy end. A really good beer. Compared to the cask strength, this is boring.
