Bottle. Rich amber beer with a nice off-white head. Sweet caramel and slight cocoa aroma. Caramel, toffee, cocoa flavor with some backing hops. Well balanced. Slight lingering bitterness. Easy to drink.

A direct pour yields a solid two-finger head of tan that sits solidly above a clear, deep dark brown body that shines ruby red with intense back lighting. Rich, complex dark caramel and dried fruit aroma. The flavor is mildly sweet with a smooth dry palate. Creamy and full bodied, with no hint as to the alcoholic content. Very nice brew.

So I bought this with a smirk, not expecting a whole lot. The pour was one of those annoying ones where you think it is all OK, nice medium sized head, turn around for half a second and find that you now have a floor covered in beer suds. After clean-up, aromas definitely hinted at a strong hops content... pine, grapefruit, caramel. Maybe a bit of rye comes through in the aroma, but it really comes into play in the taste, where it really changes the order of things... the rye malt is the bridge between the intial hops blast and the hops finish, and, in my opinion, does a better job of this than many of the IPA’s that rely on more normal malts, that give off a cloying sweetness. Really different, and really a nice change here.

Bottle. Ruby beer with a tan head. Fruity, malty aroma. Rich malt flavor with good fruitiness backing. Alcohol is present and adds some warming. Good complexity, but there’s a dry alcohol finish that detracts at the end. Fruitiness is indeterminant - just fruity without being defined.

Pours a viscous bright ruby into a tulip. Significant tan micro head leaves sheets as it slowly recedes. Everything’s here: floral, pine, citrus and resin. Syrupy and full with all the aromas in the palate. Lasting grapefruit finish. Palate detracts.

I swore I’d never give HeBrew beers another chance, but based on the ratings of this, I figured I’d give them one more go - Clear amber pour with soapy head - quite a sweet caramel and rye malt aroma, with cascade and amarillo hops taking a back seat, but still making their presence known - hops are most prominent up front, with the amarillo most noticable (which is fine with me) - sweetness comes on strong, and would be cloying were it not for the lasting hop bitterness - a tea-like herbal quality settles on top of that - rye is pretty prominent - not a bad effort for the standards of this brewer, but it is still a little over-sweet, and, like many of their beers, still tastes somewhat artifical and adjunct-laden - however, I’d still choose this beer if I had to drink one of theirs.

Murky red-brown body, thin ochre head. Aroma of toffee, chocolate, and biscuits, earthy and toasty with slight tartness. Biscuits with chocolate coating paired with earthy, bitter hops characterize the body. Notes of raisin, prune, and dusty sweet breads develop after a few sips. Nice complexity and smoothness.

Yellowish head, fast gone; colour as dark Armenian brandy. Soap, ginger, alcohol and old clothes in the nose. Old clothes again in the taste (I chew some regularily). Sweet, quite some alcohol and roasted malts. Brandy-ish MF, lactic and powerful, but not too imposing that it might be repulsive. Special one. A tad too much alcohol, but after all, one you’re glad to have had.
