Pours a deep dark brown with faint ruby highlights and a huge fluffy off white head that sticks around forever. Smells of caramel and chocolate malts with a spicy earthy herbal edge. I’m reminded of patchouli with a hint of vanilla. The flavor is is sweet and malty with lots of caramel and chocolate. The cinnamon comes out a bit in the flavor as well as some vanilla and a hint of earth. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet bubbly mouthfeel. This tastes better than it smells, but the spices make it seem like a Christmas beer. Not my favorite, but not bad.

Sampled on draft at the House of 1000 Beers this beer poured a very dark brown color - almost black with nutty highlights and a medium sized foamy tan head that faded quickly and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was vanilla, Dr Pepper, nut and cinnamon toast. The flavor was nutty cocoa, licorice, cola, strong vanilla and faint cinnamon toast. Very long finish of vanilla, cola and cinnamon toast. Moderately full bodied. Odd but interesting.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Liquor Max Loveland. Pours a hazy orange appearance with a cream colored head. Mild garlic, piney, earthy hoppy, mild grapefruity aroma. Somewhat spicy, orange/grapefruity, onion, a bit tangy, rich pale malty flavor. Pretty good.

12 ounce bottle. Not quite sure where I got it. Pours a clear amber color with a thin creamy off-white head. Decent head retention. Citrus hop aroma with caramel malts. The taste is bitter citrus hops and caramel malts. Medium bodied, refreshing, moderate lingering bitterness, high carbonation. Straightforward and very drinkable.

Bottle, 13C. Clear copper with an off-white. Aroma of toffee, peach, oranges, a little pepper. Syrupy mouthfeel with nicely judged carbonation - not so much to make it fizzy or astringent, but enough the lighten the mouthfeel a tad. Drinks its weight, but no overt alcohol. Not quite as sweet as suggested by the aroma. Toffee, peaches and a little of that rye tanginess I find hard to describe. Finishes with modest bitterness - or maybe it’s struggling against the sweetness. Not quite dry, chewy with some spices and toffee. Fine beer.

Bottle at home - 11/06/12 thanks to Sam for an IP trade in Denver. Massive dark brown body verging on black with a small brown head that soon loosens to nyadda. Dark dark aromas in the form of molasses, dried berry fruits, figs, prunes, dark sugar, malt, toffee apple and a whiff of booze. Heavy malts and alcohol in the taste with a sweet backbone of dark sugars, dark fruits and a little chocolate. Full bodied beer, limited carbonation and a well balanced beer with the alcohol, whilst obvious, is well disguised for 15%. Would have again (I have a 2nd bottle) but will probably share as this was not a beer to be rushed.
