Bottle bought at Beautiful Beers, Bury St Edmunds. The head was premature and exploded out of the bottle, all over my hand but luckily not my face. A very dark and glossy brown. Thick foamy dark beige head. Aroma of sweet coffee and multiple spoonsfulls of Muscavado sugar. A sour berry edge. Underlying fluttering malts. Flavourwise it, to be honest, fails to live up to the heights of the aroma. Sad face. We have sour berries rushing the taste buds. Really quite tangy. Almost vinous. As it warms up other traits reveal themselves. The expected coffee and then chewy underlying mocha and nougat. Light. Suprisingly thin. Lively - vivacious - soft-fizzy carbonation saves the day. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. A kinda reverse Nirvana song of a beer - loud; quite; loud.

Bottle bought at Beautiful Beers, Bury St Edmunds. Opaque dark brown. No head... well, a thin beige ring. Aroma has dark fruits, molasses, treacle, wood and booze. Flavourwise it's more restrained than the aroma perhaps suggested it would be. Smooth dark fruits and wood. Chewy dark fruit cake malts. And a booze streak. But it's not overpowering. Medium bodied. Oily. Soft carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. A barley wine to chill with.
