Hazy amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, decent fine carbonation. Soft malts, a little creamy sweetness. Fairly big caramel here and a touch of unsweet toffee. Marmalade and pine, overripe orange on the back end. Pretty much everything that drives me nuts about West Coast IPAs, and yet I can't quite hate this one. Maybe the Voss yeast rounds it out a bit.

Bottle ordered from Beautiful Beers, Bury St Edmunds. Aroma has dark rich chocolate with coffee and sharp coffee berries. Dark and glossy. Foamy beige head. Medium bitter. Coffee. Dark chocolate. Underlying nuts. Develops a tangy sour berry streak. Medium bodied. Creamy. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long astringent finish. A big Mild. Certainly verging on a Stout.

Bottle ordered from Beautiful Beers, Bury St Edmunds. Aroma is earthy, grainy... followed by sweet fruit. Murky opaque toffee brown. Thick foamy off-white head. Sweet caramel with a fruit touch. Followed by bitter grains and dark berries. The sweetness reasserts itself into the finish. Medium-heavy bodied. Oily. Flat-average carbonation. Long slightly astringent finish. Chewy ESB.

375ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Nov 22. Proper good barley wine this, as you'd expect from an old chimneys collab. Nice deep fruitiness, leathery glimpses, toffee, layered dark malts, balanced glowing dark fruits.. lovely sipper with an evolving depth of flavour.
