Description
The West Barsham Estate in North Norfolk, home to the Barsham Brewery, is steeped in farming heritage. Susanna Soames’s family have owned and farmed the land here for generations. In an area renowned for its top quality agricultural soil, North Norfolk’s sea air and unique micro-climate help us produce some of the best malting barley in the world.

Having spent the year nurturing and growing our wide range of crops, from sugar beet to oil seed rape, wheat, vining peas and barley, summer arrives and our small team of just three embark upon the annual tradition of harvesting. Come rain or shine, darkness or light, and using a combination of traditional and modern techniques, the job gets done in time for the arrival of Autumn.

Our famous Maris Otter Barley is malted down the road at Crisp Maltings and returned to our state of the art brewery situated within one of the Estate’s ancient farm buildings. The malt is blended with beautifully pure water from our own bore hole and hop varieties from around the world to craft our collection of beers. We are proud to be the purveyors of a “Norfolk born and brewed” product in the very truest sense.

First brewed in mid-2017, having purchased the former Jo C's Ales, sharing the premises with Boudicca Brewing Co.

14/8/2020. Bottle from Roy’s of Wroxham Food Hall. Pours clear pale gold with a small white head. Aroma is buttery, caramel, digestive biscuit, flowers. Medium plus sweetness and moderate bitterness. Moderate body, oily and watery texture, above average carbonation. Increasing bitterness to finish as the butter sweetness subsided. Not today’s highlight.

Ty Grumbo. Aroma and flavor are classic English beer - fruits, bit buttery, malt, caramel, black tea, hint of metallic notes. Wouldn't even say it uses NZ hops, only citric notes imply that. Finish has some nice dry bitterness, bordering harshness. Ok.
