Description
Lindisfarne Mead is a unique blend of honey and fermented grape juice, made at St. Aidan’s Winery on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, just off the coast of northern England. Lindisfarne mead has been inspired by the island‘s rich history, with roots in medieval days when monks have first inhabited the island of Lindisfarne. It is believed that mead was first produced and enjoyed on the island following the arrival of St. Aidan in AD687, who was brought to Lindisfarne island by King Oswald of Northumbria to establish a monastery.
Lindisfarne Limited commenced producing Lindisfarne Mead in 1962, to help capture the deep-rooted historical and cultural overtones of this unique part of the world. Now we produce a variety of wines, meads and liquor that is sold throughout the UK and elsewhere.

Sampled from a bottle this mead poured a very pale yellow color with a trace soapy white head that faded instantly. The aroma was sweet with sugar, tannin, pear and a harsh boozy note. The flavor was sweet and tangy with sugar, pear, apple and a bit of tannin. Medium length finish. Moderately full bodied and smooth.

25/7/2018. Bottle from CentrAle, Newcastle. Pours deep amber with an average sized lasting off-white head. Nice looking beer. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, hops, hint of nut and chocolate, fruit and light herb. Medium plus sweetness, moderate bitterness, slightest hint of berry sour. Medium body, oily texture, above average carbonation. Pretty decent brew.

Bottle from the meadery. Clear copper-gold. Syrupy mouthfeel. Extremely sweet, the cinnamon and cloves are way too heavy giving a cough mixture impression. Cloying and unpleasant, a big disappointment after the black beer and honey version.

Bottle from the meadery. Clear dark honey colour. Thick, oily texture. Very sweet at first, before the flavours start to develop - muscovado sugar, honey, brown bread and Christmas cake. Just enough dark notes to stop the sweetness taking over. The more I drank, the more I liked it.
