Description
Lindisfarne Mead is a unique blend of honey and fermented grape juice, made at St. Aidan’s Winery on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, just off the coast of northern England. Lindisfarne mead has been inspired by the island‘s rich history, with roots in medieval days when monks have first inhabited the island of Lindisfarne. It is believed that mead was first produced and enjoyed on the island following the arrival of St. Aidan in AD687, who was brought to Lindisfarne island by King Oswald of Northumbria to establish a monastery.

Lindisfarne Limited commenced producing Lindisfarne Mead in 1962, to help capture the deep-rooted historical and cultural overtones of this unique part of the world. Now we produce a variety of wines, meads and liquor that is sold throughout the UK and elsewhere.

Bottle pour at and thanks to SHIG, 16/04/23. Light cherry red with no head. Nose is sugars, red berry syrup, honey, light alcohol fumes. Taste comprises sweet red berries, sugars, honeycomb, booze. Full bodied, oily feel, balanced rising alcohol. Okay mead if lacking some complexity.

Bottle from Northumbrian gifts. Clear still red pour. Aromas is eggy and sulphurous. Some cherry and honey. Taste is eggy too. Weird. Not a fan.

50ml bottle from Northumbrian Gifts. Pours clear straw yellow with no head. Aromas of honey and some floral notes. Taste is more of the same. Sweet finish.

50ml bottle from Northumbrian Gifts. 14.5% Pours clear pink, no head obviously. Aromas of orange and honey. Taste is boozy, honey, rose wine and orange peel. Sweet finish.

9/9/2022. Bottle shared by SHIG, cheers. Pours clear pale golden with a minimal bubbles. Aroma of sweet caramel, green apple, sugary stewed apples. Medium sweetness, light bitterness and tartness. Moderate body, average carbonation. Easy drinker, nicely balanced. Enjoyed it.

Bottle online from Trembling Madness. Pours clear dark brown with no cap. Aroma: sweet dark fruits, honey, brown sugar. Taste: heavy sweet, dark fruits, prunes, brown sugar, honey. Medium body with low carbonation.

Sample courtesy of SHIG, cheers Shawn! Golden colour, bubbly white foam head and aroma of apple, caramel, fudge. Taste is sweet, apple, green apple, caramel, custard, acidic, alittle tannin. Medium bodied, medium carbonation, medium-sweet lightly tannic finish. Quite OK
