Description
Lindisfarne Mead is a unique blend of honey and fermented grape juice, made at St. Aidan’s Winery on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, just off the coast of northern England. Lindisfarne mead has been inspired by the island‘s rich history, with roots in medieval days when monks have first inhabited the island of Lindisfarne. It is believed that mead was first produced and enjoyed on the island following the arrival of St. Aidan in AD687, who was brought to Lindisfarne island by King Oswald of Northumbria to establish a monastery.

Lindisfarne Limited commenced producing Lindisfarne Mead in 1962, to help capture the deep-rooted historical and cultural overtones of this unique part of the world. Now we produce a variety of wines, meads and liquor that is sold throughout the UK and elsewhere.

Frothy white head on a golden body. Fruity, malt & bitter aroma. Medium bodied, smooth & clean. Bitter/Sweet fruity, floral, light hops & herbal tastes with a long tangy finish.

Oily reddish brown body with a honey aroma. Smooth, soft & soothing on the tongue. Honey, roasted, jam & sweet herbal tastes. Great sipper.

700ml bottle from Northumbrian Gifts. Blood red colour, no head and aroma of cherry, almond. Taste is sweet, marzipan, cherry, almonds, honey, and boozy. Medium bodied, low carbonation, almondy boozy finish. Quite drinkable.

750ml bottle from Northumbrian Gifts. Dark brown amber colour, no head and aroma of honey, boozy. Taste is sweet, honey, fruity, floral, grapey, along with earthy boozy notes. Medium bodied, low carbonation, pasty boozy finish. Quite drinkable.

700ml bottle from drinksupermarket. Clear pink colour, afew short-lived bubbles on top and aroma of citrus & honey. Taste is sweet, lime, citric, honey, some tartness, with grapey and earthy booze notes. Medium bodied, low carbonation, syrupy boozy finish. Quite drinkable

Panda thanks to SHIG, split at the mini Tipple lockdown tasting, Hazlemere, 29/08/20. Very lightly hazed golden orange with a decent off white covering. Nose is tangerine, straw, grains, melon. Taste comprises pale malts, citric tinged straw, lemon rind, light citric sherbets. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close kissed with modest hop bitterness. Passable affair.

Sample thanks to Grumbo. Misty golden yellow. Aroma is rich sweet honey. Sweet floral medicinal honey character, fairly boozy.
