Description
VAUX has been a beloved name in Sunderland for almost 200 years. From the earliest incarnation of 'C. Vaux & Sons' in 1837 right through to the 1990's, the brewery was an important part of city life in Sunderland until its closure in 1999.
In early 2019, we set about relaunching this iconic brand to make it a source of pride once more for the people of Sunderland. One year on, after a successful period of contract brewing with some of the best breweries in our area, we have now opened our own brewery in Monk Street, Sunderland.

Can from Hydrology. Pours opaque near-black with a thin tan head. Red berry and chocolate aromas. Taste is heavy on the charcoal end of stouts, the fruitiness is quite light compared to some flavoured beers on the market these days. Dry finish. Didn't mind it.

On tap at Ship Aground, Stafford. Pours almost black with minimal tan head. There’s oats and roasted malts in the aroma, alongside hints of lactose. Roast malts and oats again in the mouth, plus hints of coffee, liquorice and alcohol. Finish is quite bitter and slightly boozy. This is a decent stout.

[33cl can from Beer52.] A cloudy pale amber pour with a trace of white head; aroma of lemon, pineapple and other tropical fruit; smooth malty body with a slowly developing citrus and tropical fruit taste; then a sharp, tart, bitterness. A refined, rather than in your face, APA.
