(6/31/08) Draught at the brewpub in Bamberg. Cloudy orange with an off-white head. Aroma has some banana and spiciness and maybe some very faint smokiness. Wheaty fruity flavor with banana, light citrus and some spiciness. Medium-bodied with a typical crisp Weizen mouthfeel. Not really smoky.

(6/31/08) Draught at the brewpub in Bamberg. Cloudy appearance (it actually looks like there are clouds there!) with a big white head. Aroma of some malt and nice fresh hoppiness. A rather dry hoppy flavor with some grass and some citrus notes. Medium-bodied. Very nice.

Bottle at Kent BF 08. Amber clear, thin white head. Rauch aroma. Lovely Bamberg bacon. Smokey. Baken bean aroma according to Brian and Martin. Decent lager. Bit empty after some very good ales. But good enough.

Bottle picked up at Uto Beer, Borough Market, Lahndan tahn 21-06-08 consumed 03-07-08 Light amber pour with haziness the head was off white but departed quite quickly. Initial taste is quite soft in the mouth smoky flavours are there but very much less so than in its stablemates, some honey and very lightly smoked bacon and the nose is a far less dominant than the scherlenka, very nice and actually very refreshing. A7 A2 T7 P3 Ov14 had this again. Cycled into town (Bamberg) from our campsite just outside at Bug 17-06-10 had this on tap at the brewery tap Copper in colour with smoked sausage nose, wonderful smoky flavours but despite all this talk of smoke this is a really refreshing beer, not as smoky as Schlenker but damn tasty. Rating much better for having had this at the tap. Pours A8 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.7

Bottle, 5.3%. Weak malty aroma, slightly roasted. Clear dark brown colour. Small tan head. The flavour is quite malty with a certain grainy horse stable flavour, presumably from the smoke malt. I do not get much smoke flavour in this, but it is quite good.

bottle, thanks to Bochum! Clear amber colour, large and creamy beige head. Aroma of smoked malt. Medium-bodied, with slightly smoked flavour, hints of roasted malt, slightly fruity and hoppy.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a longlasting off-white head. Has a malty bready aroma with some soft hints of smoke. Sweet malty bready grainy and slightly smoky flavor. Sweetish malty and slightly bready finish with hints of smoke in the aftertaste.

Malziger Antrunk, leicht rauchig, die Intensität überzeugt, da sowohl die Aspekte des Bocks als auch des Rauchmalzes deutlich erkennbar sind. Die Rauchigkeit, die sich dem bekannten "Schinken-Aroma" annähert, wird stärker, ebenso der würzige Beiton. Die Rauchigkeit ist nun der Hauptbestandteil, cremig, wie vorher sehr harmonisch. Im Abgang etwas süßer und malziger, die Rauchnoten sind hier nur noch zaghaft vertreten. Das Bier stellt einen guten Kontrast zu dem viel rauchigeren Schlenkerla Urbock dar. Gerne wieder! (bottle, purchased at the brewery) Clear, reddish amber colour with a thick, light-beige foamy head, leaving lace-work. Moderately sweet toast-malty, slightly smoked and rooty aroma with caramel, subtle dried fruity notes and a light herbal hoppy background. Moderately sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a soft and pleasantly matured mouthfeel. Slightly smoked malty taste with toasted barley and soft smoky notes, becoming a bit more intense towards the sweet-bitter and lasting finish. A goodie but –if smoked- I prefer the smokiness without compromise done by Schlenkerla (11.02.08).

On tap at the brewery. Dark golden with a medium sized, lasting head. Lightly smoked, malty aroma. Malty dry flavour with a touch of smoke and a good, hoppy finish. And easy drinker
