Bottle, at Copenhagen Beerfestival. It’s a clear, dark brown beer with a decent beige head. Slightly herbal nose with hints of DMS, caramel and roasted malts. Alcohol, sweetness, caramel, roasted malts, some herbal notes and a pleasant bitterness. Warming and full-bodied, with a bitter and sweet finish. Well, not my idea of a Barley Wine, but sure drinkable. Rating: 6-4-6-4-13-3.3. 090517
Bottle. It pours a nice, dense, beige head that has a good longevity and leaves nice lacings. The body is slightly hazy, and reddish dark brown in color. It has a nice aroma with resiny, citrusy hops over a foundation of sweetish, malty hops leaving dried fruits and some caramel. A hint of licorice and cellar lurks in the back. In the mouth it’s full-bodied and smooth, some warmth from the alcohol also shows up, especially in the very end. There’s dried fruits, some caramel and hints of licorice in the flavor, as well as a good citrusy, resiny hop impact leaving a balancing bitterness. Overall, a pretty good beer that should be more pronounced. On the other hand, it’s dangerously easy to drink the way it presents itself now. 20100428

Small yellowish head over mossy dark-amber beer. Slightly oxydized malts, blackcurrant, whiff of sweet syrup. Very sweet, obviously for balancing the chili, which only arrives in the finish. Sweet chocolate and malt syrup dominate. Oxydizing less obvious in the flavour. Pretty well-bodied, slightly slick, slightly peppery finish. In the very aftertaste, juniper. Reasonable, but IMO either prematurely aged, or old malts used. Thanks to Glenn & Davy!

50cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Black colour, beige head. Aroma of butterscotch, caramel/toffee, a hint of coffee. Flavour is sweet, butterscotch, roasted malts, some milk chocolate, liquorice root, coffee bitter and hoppy/grapefruit finish. Soft, syrupy mouthfeel, medium to fullbodied. Very nice, but a bit too sweet for my liking.

Bottle from the supermarket across the street of the brewery. Frothy off-white almost lightbrown head. Brown amber colour. Heavy malty and nutty aroma. Modeate bitter flavor. Plum and nutty notes. Long finish. Creamy palate. Not a well-balanced barleywine.
