Description
Since George and Susannah Bateman opened our independent family brewery in 1874, we’ve been using the best possible ingredients and craft brewing methods to make beers that people love.

Four generations later, and we’re still doing things our own way – and have quite a few more beers to our name.

Historical tick which I am adding as a rate so that I can see the impact it has on my stats. 500 Beers To Try Before You Die. Missed out on this one a couple of times when it ran out before i got to the Spoons that had it no (Crosse Keys in the City and Tilly Shilling in Farnborough). FThen found a bottle in M&S in Brooklands and was yeah it's twiggy.

Bottle from TESCO Malts and nuts dominate the nose here. Pours a bright lucozade orange with a very transient white head – is almost as fizzy as Lucozade too ! It gets better when it hits the mouth, with treacle, malts and marmalade plus hints of ginger and spices. Has a dry fruity finish. Hides it’s strength very well – dangerously drinkable !

20/2/2020. Cask at the Chelmsford Winter Beer & Cider Festival 2020. Pours mid-dark brown with a bubbly off-white head. Aroma of blackberry, plummy dark fruits, sweet malt, cherry bakewell pie and light chocolate. Medium sweetness and moderate bitterness with a light tart edge. Moderate body. Dry, pastry finish. Liked this.

(On tap) Hazy deep amber with small white head. Slightly fruity aroma. Medium body with fine carbonation. Tangy fruity start (reminded me vaguely of chutney) followed by gentle toffee notes and very modest bitterness. Ok but not great.
