Description
In August 1982, our late founder Tony Allen opened Oak Brewery on an industrial estate in Ellesmere Port. After much success, he moved nine years later to a location more central to his trading areas. Phoenix Brewery, Heywood!

Phoenix Brewery was registered in 1874, brewing directly from the Brewery tower and owning over 100 pubs in the local area. Phoenix’s history is still proudly displayed on our seven-story tower.

Building upon our strong foundations, we continue to brew Tony’s longstanding classic beers, whilst introducing innovative new brews. The team are looking forward to welcoming you to our Brewery site – soon to be open to the public for the first time in our history!

In 1996 it took the decision to trade as the name of the brewery Phoenix Brewery.

Cask at Brewery Tap, Chester Pours a reddish shade of brown (not dark) with a small cream head. Nose is just a vague hint of raspberries. More happening in the mouth, sweet with dark fruits balanced by malts and a hint of chestnuts. Finish is fruity. Good but not a classic mild.

Handpull cask at Sir Robert Peel (JDW), Bury. Golden brown, clear with a large tight beige head. Metallic, sulphurous aroma with a bit of orchard fruit. Taste is surprisingly sweet considering the aroma, and surprisingly nice. Lovely notes of pear drop and banana ride the wave of a more astringent character which increases to the finish. Soft carbonation, medium to full body. Not really my cup of tea but certainly not bad.

Handpull cask at the Clarence, Bury. Dark brown and reasonably translucent. Small beige/khaki head. Aroma slightly reminiscent of honey, with a little bit of liquorice. Taste is sweet, with more liquorice and cough-drop honey flavour. Thin body with a somewhat watery mouthfeel. It isn't bad.

Cask (,???)," @ the New Oxford Manchester. Pink, cloudy. Strawberry juice in the aroma and flavor. Sweet flavor with strawberry juices overpowering all other possible flavors. Nothing beer like in this drink, but I have to admit I drank it with pleasure.
