Phoenix Brewery was registered in 1874, brewing directly from the Brewery tower and owning over 100 pubs in the local area. Phoenix’s history is still proudly displayed on our seven-story tower.
Building upon our strong foundations, we continue to brew Tony’s longstanding classic beers, whilst introducing innovative new brews. The team are looking forward to welcoming you to our Brewery site – soon to be open to the public for the first time in our history!
In 1996 it took the decision to trade as the name of the brewery Phoenix Brewery.

20/2/2019. Cask at the 20th Chelmsford Winter Beer and Cider Festival. Pours clear golden amber with a small bubbly off-white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, hops, fruit and biscuit. Medium sweetness and moderate bitterness. Medium body, slight oily texture, soft carbonation. Nice bitterness to finish.

9/2/2019. Cask at the Sir Thomas Gerard, Ashton-in-Makerfield. Pours pale gold with a white head. Aroma of malt, hops, citrus, caramel and grass. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness and body. An average golden.

Cask @ Sir Thomas Gerard, Ashton-in-Makerfield. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty and light hoppy - grass. Flavor is medium sweet and light bitter. Dry and light bitter finish. 090219

Cask @ Sir Thomas Gerard, Ashton-in-Makerfield. Nice head with good duration. Color is yellow. Aroma and taste are fruits, hops, malt and has a sweet light bitter finish.

Cask at the Duke Of York, Potters Bar on 30th January 2019. Copper with thin foam and initial lacing. Caramel malt aroma. Leafy hops and caramel malt in-mouth and a bittersweet finish. Light bodied with a smooth mouthfeel.

27/9/2018. Cask at the St.Albans Beer & Cider Festival 2018. Pours pale gold with a small off-white head. Aroma of citrus, caramel, cream, malt and vanilla. Medium sweetness, light to moderate bitterness. Moderate body, slight oily texture, very soft carbonation. Easy drinking, decent brew.

Bottle @ benzai. Black colour with a small offwhite head. Smells liquorice, roasty, earthy. Tastes liquorice, roasty, chocolate. Unfortunately some iron too I think. Iron goes away as it warms up a little. Medium body, soft carbo.

Half-pint, cask ale outdoor at Cemetery Hotel. Nitro white head, next-to-clear golden body. Spotty lacing. Pale malts on the nose, some citric hints. Taste of lemony hops and bread. Rounded mid-sweet fruity ending. Fair enough. (Rochdale 05.05.2018).

Half-pint, cask ale at Flying Horse Hotel. Covering white head, spotty lacing, clear golden body. Aroma of grainy fruits. Bread and dried fruity flavours. Hop fruity ending. Standard Brit blonde. (Watching TV football with Leif, Rochdale 05.05.2018).
