Description
In August 1982, our late founder Tony Allen opened Oak Brewery on an industrial estate in Ellesmere Port. After much success, he moved nine years later to a location more central to his trading areas. Phoenix Brewery, Heywood!
Phoenix Brewery was registered in 1874, brewing directly from the Brewery tower and owning over 100 pubs in the local area. Phoenix’s history is still proudly displayed on our seven-story tower.
Building upon our strong foundations, we continue to brew Tony’s longstanding classic beers, whilst introducing innovative new brews. The team are looking forward to welcoming you to our Brewery site – soon to be open to the public for the first time in our history!
In 1996 it took the decision to trade as the name of the brewery Phoenix Brewery.

Cask at York Tap. Pours medium brown with a very thin white head. No carbonation. Aromas of mixed spice , ginger, toffee and alcohol, maybe even nail varnish. Taste continues this theme, whilst managing to somehow taste stronger than it is. Odd.

Hand-pulled half-pint in The Crown Inn, Oakengtaes on 29 Jun 2013. Light golden brew with and full white head. Floral hop nose with a dry and refreshing feel to the taste. There is a mild citrus undertone throughout the brew but it doesn’t take over completely, it just lurks in the background allowing the malts and other fruit esters from the hops combine to give a fairly well balanced brew. Bordering on those ’golden citrusy beers the UK in full of currently’ that I am not a big fan of: this gets the benefit of the doubt!
