Description
In August 1982, our late founder Tony Allen opened Oak Brewery on an industrial estate in Ellesmere Port. After much success, he moved nine years later to a location more central to his trading areas. Phoenix Brewery, Heywood!

Phoenix Brewery was registered in 1874, brewing directly from the Brewery tower and owning over 100 pubs in the local area. Phoenix’s history is still proudly displayed on our seven-story tower.

Building upon our strong foundations, we continue to brew Tony’s longstanding classic beers, whilst introducing innovative new brews. The team are looking forward to welcoming you to our Brewery site – soon to be open to the public for the first time in our history!

In 1996 it took the decision to trade as the name of the brewery Phoenix Brewery.

Cask @ Regal Moon, Rochdale. More of a dark reddish-brown in colour with a small head. Has a high sweetness which tastes more berry heavy than honey, but there’s lots of sugary flavours in there anyhow. A touch thin.

I was given a free pint of this bitter by the then landlord at the time as I was one of two people cheering on Warrington’s rugby league Shield victory in the Autumn of 2011 - the other was his mate, an ex-Wolves player, hence the freebie. I don’t remember it too well except it was a pretty decent bitter as the landlord asked me to comment on it for him and I know I liked it.

Hand-pulled pint in The Shrewsbury Hotel (Spoons) on 24th Feb 2014. Light amber brew with a deep and lasting white crown. Decent blend of aromas and flavours: floral and fruity nose with a semi-sweet malty backbone. The taste was also based around a maltiness, biscuit and bread notes came to mind. Again there is a floral and fruitiness within the beer, slight citrus feel too. Nice balance, nothing overpowering or special tasting, just a good beer from start to finish.
