Dark golden with a disappearing off-white head. A yeast dominated aroma with bubblegum and candy and some malt. Sweet, rich flavour, full of malt. Full body. Well made, but somewhat anonymous beer.

Bottled. It pours quite clear at the start, with more hazyness towards the bottom, sparkling and red-colored with a orange-brown hue. Decent beige head. The aroma meets you quite powerful when pouring, and starts with lots of banana-fruityness. Theres also spices, caramel-hints and some bubble-gum. The flavor is malty, spices, caramelized, fruity and hoppy, with a medium body. Warming finish with spices and caramel. Can surely understand that the Danes was pleased when Carlsberg started their Semper Ardens project, it is a good beer, but more on the average side than on the wauw-side. That is probably due to the development in the beer-world. It has a lot of Belgian style-mates that is better. (061220)

Dark golden beer. Malt and fresh grain aromas. Very sweet malty flavour. Quite an unremarkable barleywine. Tasted 2008: Unremarkable, and it didn’t even age well. Still a 3.1 rating

Draught, 6.5%. The aroma is a little sour and has an underlying aroma of cheap lager. Almost clear amber colour. Small, but stable and creamy white head. The flavour starts off fruity, then turns slightly sour and bitter. The sourness is nicely balanced by a little malt and alcohol. Small alcohol bite at the end. Nice mouthfeel and carbonation, even though it gets a bit prickly. The flavour gets sweeter and more yeasty as it warms. Well-crafted beer, but I am no fan of it.

75cl bottle from Sainsburys. Now I’ve had a couple of these Jacobsen beers in their bizarrely shaped bottles and not been entirely convinced by them. This however is a different breed. A rich crystal clear gold colour with sparse white head. Lovely Belgian yeast, estery aroma with great hop presence. I had this with a pepperoni pizza with extra extra mature cheddar and it was sparkling. The malts are a little lame, but I do like the mango fruit and alcohol. Spritzy Saaz hop finish. Daft I know and with not much class or style, but there is something about it. A bit like James Bond, but in Chavtastic Burberry.
