Description
COAST Brewing Company is a family owned craft brewery, on an old Navy base. We make beer we like to drink, simple and done well. We believe in choice organic and local ingredients. But it's not just about being organic, it's a certain mind set of considering the environment in everything we do. In fact, we're not certified organic and have no plans to be-we do it because we believe it's the right thing. All of our ingredients are listed including which are organic. Welcome and thanks for your continued support!

Location: Draft at F.I.G. Restaurant, 12/8/12

Aroma: This one has a nutty and chocolate malt nose to it, with earthy notes too
Appearance: Pours a brown color with a red hue, and a long lasting head heavy, and coating lace
Flavor: It has a roasted malt flavor, some nuts, and a later medium-plus bitterness
Palate: this beer has a medium-plus body, a creamy feel, a soft carbonation, and a dry finish
Overall Impression:  I found this too be a really solid, well-made brown ale. It drinks quite nicely, and has very nice components to it. Solid stuff.

2010 vintage. 22 oz. bottle, sent from CooperEllis (thanks a lot, John), pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of the buffalo trace barrels upfront, tar and charcoal. Flavour brings out the barrels upfront without overburdening the palate, with some smoked malt, charcoal and almost a sour tang to it, likely from the barrels - not much actual bourbon, just the presence of some sort of barrel aging. A slight improvement from the original, as to increase the complexity. But still sub-par for the style.

2010 vintage. 22 oz. bottle, sent from cory_king (thanks Cory), pours pitch black with a thick tan head. Aroma of smoky malts, coal, chalk and bitter cocoa. Flavour is very coal-like, with a chalky-feel. There is some light smoked malt, a bit of roast, and loads of coal and chalk. No sweetness or roast - this is really overtaken by the coal and chalk. Full-bodied and thick like tar. A drinkable, but flawed impie. I wonder if this is what they were going for.

From the 11/2012 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy golden-apricot color with a small soapy white head that faded and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was sweet and tangy fruity hops, sugar and noticeable yeast. Dry, must and bitter flavor with notes of pine and tropical fruits. Medium length pine and tropical fruit finish. Medium body. Ok.

32 oz. growler, sent from Elliesbrown (thanks a lot, Zack!), pours a fairly clear orange with a small beige head. Nose is full of tropical fruits (pineapple, peach and mango, in particular), loads of citrus and resinous hops, and a big malt backbone. Flavour is robustly tropical fruit-heavy and citrus and resinous hops heavy, loads of grapefruit, and with a big, but not overdone, malt backbone. The hops pack a punch, but a beautiful one, without any astringency whatsoever. Full bodied and robust. Beautiful IIPA.
