Served on draft at the brewery. Pours a hazy brown color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of big citrus hops, some herbal notes, caramel malts. The taste is citrus and earthy hops, some tropical notes and caramel malts. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness, well balanced.

2011 bottle with black wax thanks to GRG1313. Pours with a deep black body with a lasting tan head and some alcohol legs. Aromas are of chocolate, a bit of rubber, caramel, bready and oak. Flavors are roasty, chocolate, lots of tannins, bitter, oak, wood, vanillin. Softer carbonation, creamy and warming.

Dammit, COAST. Make a shitty beer. I really need you guys to. Because I feel like I lose any credibility when discussing COAST beer, since I rave on and on about all of it. And here’s the crazy part: the growler of All Chinook we’ve opened at the War on Christmas is at least three months old, and the hops still drench every ounce of the grainy malts in this rather heavy-duty pale ale. In fact, you could call it an IPA and no one would laugh at you. Citric, dank, and piney, I hope this one-off from you guys becomes a two- or three-off. Until then, perhaps you could brew a strawberry wit or coffee chili sour ale, you know, something I can make fun of you about. For editorial integrity’s sake.

22oz bottle pours an oily, opaque black with one ring of tan head. Nose has some nice chocolate, sour mash whiskey, light coconut, malty, a little maple, some light soy, nuts. Flavor is malty, a little smoke, some light coconut, chocolate, brown sugar, a little cupcake icing. Full bodied, woody, smokey finish. Very well balanced.

A strong ale with the soul of a hippie kitten, Wadmalaw Sunset makes for wonderful Sunday afternoon beer. The aroma mixes wheat and spice with fresh linens on a clothesline, while soothing honey rounds things out. Wadmalaw never descends into cloying stickiness; rather, the malts and hops are given surprising room to play, the honey providing subtle sweetness that draws all the varying flavors into focus. The finish is dry yet honey-laced, and the alcohol is invisible against the silky texture. Tasty, tasty brew.

Bottled on 12/09/2008 Received in trade form brentk56, thanks for the opportunity! Pours a solid black color with a decent sized fluffy tan head that shows moderate retention. This smells incredible from the moment I pop the cap until I stick the bottle in the recycle bin. Dark fruits, caramel, licorice, chocolate, hints of smoke, its all in here. Little to no hop presence in the aroma. Taste is caramel and chocolate up front, licorice, dark fruit and faint hints of alcohol and hop deep underneath. Smooth chocolate frappe creamy mouthfeel, light level of carbonation, medium to thick body. I wish I hadn’t sat on this one so long because I’d love to know what its like fresh. This is drinking beautifully right now, too bad its the only one I’ve ever seen.

Rich and maybe even a little bretty, smoky aroma, with some raisins. Mild alcohol and roast bite, mellows out with some cheeses. Fairly smooth and pretty OK. Very dark brown-black with dark tan head.

Tasty summer diversion from the Naval Yards. Lasting, bitter hops piggyback a smooth, light wheat ale, coming across like a Pilsner without the frightening, authoritarian German accent. The wheat leaves a cute little lemon note that compliments the Mt. Hood hop demons, while said Mt. Hood hop demons will keep your friends from laughing at you for drinking Wheat Ale.

Bottle picked up by my lovely wife: Poured a hazy straw color with a frothy foam white head. Aroma is full on grains with hint of citrus or honey. Taste is bitter with honey up front leaves way to harvest wheat and light malt. Very refreshing beer.
