Bomber pours gold with a sense of haze and tiny loose white head. The aroma is sweet, grainy, modest lageriness and a touch of sweet honey. The taste seems pretty fresh and nearly crisp with sweetness, a floral hop bite, graininess, lager-y yeast and a thin layer of honey.

This pours deep darkness with amber edges and thin tan head. The aroma is mild with roasted to burnt malts moving slowly into caramel malts and faint chocolate. The taste begins with modest amounts of oak and bourbon notes bleeding into dark roastiness, chocolate and a mild sense of caramel malts. It ends with lingering burnt malts, some chocolate malts and a faint level of caramel malts.

bottle, Tampa xmas gathering pours oil black, off-white/tan head. Aroma loads of malts, caramel, chocolate, barrel, light vanilla Flavor, barrel, wood, roasted malts, chocolate; nibs, grains, notes of coffee, toasted malts, mouthfeel is thick, coated with whiskey goodness and sweet vanilla. Not really the BA beer I was expecting.

22oz bottle shared at the DC Local tasting. Pours a translucent, nearly opaque deep, mahogany brown with a thin, creamy white head. Spicy, malty nose that has the rye coming through. Some nice toasty aroma notes too. Flavor is the same with some spicy rye, chocolate and toast. Dry finish.

Brewgrass 2009 Black with a tan head. Roast malt aroma, very little boubon. Full bodied and smooth. Roasty. Don’t come here for the bourbon though.

Dark brown. Not much head. Chocolatey, rich slightly fudgey and smooth aroma with only a the slightest hint of barrel. Rich, soft body is ultra smooth. Just a hint of barrel taste, but the wood provides significant roundness to the beer in the finish. Subtle vanilla late lends this beer a dessert quality that other BA impys would envy. Gorgeous stuff.

Almost black. Rich dark chocolate and dark fruit nose. Rich, creamy, decadent brew with lots of chocolate, subtle coffee complexity and dark fruitiness. Dry finish. We went back for more.

Hazy golden-amber. Caramelly, earthy nose with an almost liquoricey spiciness. Same spice on the palate with fruity hops and caramelly malts. The yeasty character is too simple for the style and therefore I’m not finding that it takes me anywhere.

Hazy beige with a thin head. Very pleasing woody dry hop nose. Slightly herbal bitterness, some notable yeast character and a hint of breadcrusty malt. Interesting balance but a tasty beer.

Vibrant golden colour. Fairly clean, with just a slight oversparged huskiness. It’s got a hint of that raw, cracked-grain acidity, which really complements a slightly bready finish.
