Cask at PACK, Wolverhampton. Pours almost black with a small spotty beige head and good lacing. The aroma is mainly malts and lactose plus traces of pineapple and alcohol. In the mouth it is sweet and creamy, but with a little underlying bitterness. Flavours start off with roast and chocolate malts, and cream liqueur. A little later come berry fruits and alcoholic strength and finally hints of coffee and vanilla. Finish is dry and fruity. This is quite nice – unusual combination of flavours.

Cask at Bird in Hand, Stafford. Pours navy blue with a small scummy turquoise head and good lacing. There’s nuts and salt in the aroma. In the mouth it is sweet and juicy with a slightly effervescent texture. Flavour has continental hops, biscuits and malts, with traces of honey, citrus and oranges coming through later leading to a slightly dry finish. This looks extremely weird but tastes decent.

Handpull cask at the Whitley, Halesowen. Amber brown and clear with a small and slightly scummy beige head. Woody, malty aroma, some berry and caramel. Sweet malty taste, some complexity in the fruity bitterness afterward. Dry malty finish. Well enough crafted but not particularly exciting.
